Sixty Nine dollars??????

Surely there is a place where you can buy these type of headsets, maybe not as noise cancelling, for much, much less.

Anyone have any sources?

I'm actually look for sometype of squishy foam style to help keep out other noises. Something similar to shooters ear plugs but only with the capability of listening to a radio.

At one point I ran across some of these but now I can't find them. arrgghh.

Have you thought of buying the noise plugs and then hollowing them out enough to insert some earbud headphones? That looks like all they did in the pic you posted... I could be wrong, but it wouldn't cost much to find out...

Go to the above site and check out stle #7. If you want to order one go down to your local Hearing Aid dealer and have him fit you for one. It should only run 40-60 bucks and it gives you a real comfortable fit. I had a pair made for my ears and I use it with the cell phone and CD player all the time. I have really weird shapped ears and I can't wear ear buds. They also do a good job cutting off outside background noise.

I'll be getting one from RAHQ at some point in the next few months with an ear mold as well. Sickens me that I can't find a decent earphone that works and sounds like something worth listening to, so once in my life I'm going to get a good piece of equipment.

Yeah, $60 seems a bit of money for just an earphone, but considering I take my scanner pretty much everywhere I go for various reasons, it's worth the one-time cost.

$60 is nothing. I was looking for new ear plugs for my Dell DJ30 and found these Shure E5c Sound Isolating Earphones $499

Try "Racing Electronics" for those if I `disremembers prezactly I think.

If they don't have them anymore then I really don't know just where one would find them these days. {WAN GRIN!} I suspect that *if* they did quit selling them the reason was probably because they `priced themselves out of the market' because almost $70 is awfully expensive for basically a pair of `earbuds' stuffed into a set of heaing protectors. (Actually... *If* *I* was going to go with hearing protectors *and* also want to listen to my scanner I'd probably go with a set of "ProEars" and be able to protect my hearing, hear what was going on around me [In stereo no less], *and* have the ability to listen to either a regular radio *or* scanner radio. ["ProEars" don't just `cutoff' when the noise gets too loud like a lot of the cheaper ones do. They actually go into `compression' and limit the sound level to a safe one whilst still allowing one to hear things. It's both safer and nicer than just suddenly having things become muffled and `illegible?' / `un-intelligble?' every time things happen to get too loud.])

Just an `Olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {GRIN!}

Oh I know all about the Shures, and the Etymotics (better than the Shures by a longshot and slightly less expensive), but for monitoring scanner transmissions such high fidelity is neither warranted nor expected.

The one from RAHQ should be perfect for me.

Though they do not have various size ear pieces (and I am tired of this one size fits all concept), the Shack does have a nice set of stero in the ear headphones. They do come with three different types of soft rubber ear pieces (different shapes and all TOO big for my ears).

I carry one with me every where. When I am traveling, I use them on the plane with my MP3 player then switch over to the scanner when I land. Looks like I've got a cell phone ear piece.

Check this URL

http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...e=CTLG_007_003_003_000&product_id=33-1167

The cost is $20.

I've been tempted to get one of the more expensive systems, but this is working for me now and I am too cheap to spend the 40 to 60 dollars for the headset (I'll spend $500 on a scanner without even thinking twice). U think I' am afraid I'll break the acqustic cable or something.
