This week I took a closer look sites and locations for all the YRCS sites. In the process, I discovered that all of the 700mhz sites of the YRCS are licensed under Arizona's 700mhz Band State License (ULS License - Public Safety 700 MHZ Band-State License License - WPTZ765 - ARIZONA, STATE OF). As they deploy more site locations, this will make it more difficult to determine the site locations as they are not nicely associated with a site specific license. This will also make it more difficult to determine which sites are simulcast sites.

I also noticed that FCC licenses associated with the Yuma County 800mhz sites have been cancelled. Additionally, these 800mhz sites have frequencies that should have been rebanded by now. This makes me think that these sites have been converted to 700mhz frequencies.

Can anyone out west verify if 800mhz sites listed in the DB are currently active? I am specifically referring to these sites below:

Yuma (Simulcast) Site Details (Yuma Regional Communications System, (YRCS))
Telegraph Pass Mountain Site Details (Yuma Regional Communications System, (YRCS))
San Luis Site Details (Yuma Regional Communications System, (YRCS))
Stone Cabin Site Details (Yuma Regional Communications System, (YRCS))

thx for posting this cellphone
i was going to start a thread about the lack of online documentation for this system but seeing this popped up shows at least some sites for the build out

i have done some extensive searching on the system and the only public docs i've found is back from 2010 and nothing since

as to the build out these sites are most likely the main sites to get started on

as it showed mt elden and its now known and up on towers mountain which i doubt theres a path between them for the microwave backbone

which in my search finding the DPS microwave backbone which goes to squaw peak in the verde which most likely will be a hop to flagstaff

or mingus up this way is another hop path to flagstaff which sees both mountains and even tucson for that matter

so there has to be fill in sites along the way for the build out to work and function

In the license documents, there are mentions of some frequencies up north. The interesting thing is they are only single frequencies. Can anyone up north listen for activity on this Frequency in these two locations:

Mt Elden - Flagstaff
773.09375

Christmas Tree
773.09375

There's also a single freq labeled 'South Mountain 2' on 769.20625 if you Valley folks want to take a listen.

I'm going to the Yuma hamfest with my trusty non-tapped 396T, I'll see what shakes out on the Yuma City-licensed 700 freqs. Might talk the XYL into traveling home via 95 and I40 to check the others.

the great thing for us that live in northern AZ is that if anything pops up on 700 mhz we will know what it is
theres nothing else on 700 mhz up here

and i'll take a listen while driving to see if i can hear elden when that does get built out

Well, looks like you NW Arizona folks have some listening to do :)

Found two additional sites, which were not in the database, referenced on the Smith Peak site as neighbor sites.

Site 1.13 is probably located to the north and west of Smith Peak, as I picked it up very faintly just north of Wikieup on SR93. I saw it appear on my spectrum display off and on south of Wikieup, but the strongest was north of Wikieup.

- I did not see this site's signal while at the Flying J in Kingman, but that could have been due to the location.

Site 1.16 is probably located to the south and west of Smith Peak, as I picked it up sporadically south of Wikieup, but more prominently about 23 miles north of Wickenburg on SR93, fading out at about 16 miles north of Wickenburg.

I don't know when I'll be back in this neck of the woods, but I suspect that 1.13 and 1.16 may be located somewhere in La Paz or Mohave counties, possibly even California.

Anyone able to spend more time on these :) ?

I specifically looked for the frequency referenced for Flagstaff and Christmas Tree, but found nothing on the frequency.

Outstanding information John! Thanks for taking the time to confirm this. I will get the DB updated this weekend.

It seems there aren't many listeners in the Yuma area. Based on the 800mhz license cancellations, all this changed almost a year and a half ago.

Enjoy the ham fest.

These are the same location. Site 106 was previously reported as Mohawk Pass, but in the State's documentation they refer to it as Windy Hill. I'll update the name in the DB to reference the State's name for the site.

In the callsign for the sites owned by Yuma, there is another transmitter location listed within the Yuma city limits. Give a listen to these frequencies and let us know if you get a control channel:

WQWF871 (YUMA, CITY OF) FCC Callsign Details
1440 W DESSERT HILLS DR, Yuma
769.08125
769.30625
769.55625
769.75625
770.05625
770.25625
770.50625
770.75625
771.03125
771.18125
771.33125
771.48125

Also, If anyone around the area can help get alternate control channels for sites 101, 103, 105, 113, and 114, as well as info for San Luis and Stone Cabin it can help us fill in some more blanks.

San Luis and Stone Cabin are licensed to the same frequencies:
769.25625
769.58125
769.83125
770.08125
770.35625
770.60625

We also have 4 sites (105, 113, 114, and 116) with unknown locations if anyone can report on locations and signal strength to help us narrow these down.

There are is also a gap where there might be sites numbered 117, 118, and 119 somewhere in the state. I have attached text file listing all the AZ 700mhz frequencies that fall under the state license that can be assigned to base stations.

There is no activity on the freqs listed for Windy Hill and Friendship Tower. Sites 101 and 102 might be these
