• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

AM was in rare form this morning.

I heard almost no skip before noon today (complete $#!7 show by early afternoon).

It was clear and easy listening on the local net.

I had conversations with at least six different people (not pretend QSO's but the actual exchange of information and ideas).

There were a couple of new folks heard on the fringe of my RX that could finally hear me too.

Several more "distant men" being described to me because he was trying to pull me in too (He's so-n-so from whosie-whatsit... you know... johnny's uncle bill... He runs an old Eagle rig...)

Today was such a good day that I finally waded into the SSB waters...

I keyed up on SSb with no effect.

A glance at the meter on a dead key.

ZERO WATTS

Huh?

"Audio! Audio! Audio!"

Looky there. A 10 watt swing on LSB.

Am I missing something or is something broken?

Sooper-Secret-Bands

Gotta crank the amp to get heard sometimes.
38-LSB, 20-LSB, 28-LSB. Scan around otherwise.

There’s this all-new mobile antenna at DX-E or HRO . . . .

This is where a 102” and parked in a good location does well.

36 & 37 LSB are where I have most success. 38lsb gets super crowded with big power stations especially evenings & weekends. Having said that, my first dx contract was on 38lsb on a week day morning, stock uniden 980. No dead key on ssb but I’m not sure what you should see on a meter either.

Contributor JayMojave wrote what I thought was (and still do) the funniest post from years of reading around on CB.

In it was description of Amateur operators on one band or another of theirs with their morning Net . . . and after a few months one of’em getting a bit cranky from the litany of gall-bladder surgery or prostate cancer stories.

So he saddled up and off flew the lasso, that, some of ‘em was off-frequency.

Which turned into cartoon time given old tube equipment and arcane seance-worthy alignment procedures. Lasted days. Maybe a couple weeks.

I know I’m still laughing.

Everyone needs him an Eeyore Story for proper SSB etiquette so they knows yer serious. Oozing sore? Colostomy Bag? Make it appetizing. (How the regulars default to drive off the unwanted).

Silent morning? From over on WWDX it was:

So quiet I could hear Recons’ dog snoring”
(are there any “ex” Marines?) His mic would pick it up. So quiet don’t need a radio to hear . . . .

You can try LSB-16 on Saturday, see if any of them are awake.

The first intelligible statement I pulled from SSB this morning was a guy stating that he had found a good used colonoscopy camera at a yard sale for cheap... 😐
