Silent Key
Posted a few observations and questions following a strong thunderstorm in other threads.
Specific to the Unication G4 -- noticed yesterday that 1 of 4 local sites on the NC VIPER system went into Site Trunking mode (G4 reported it and Pro96Com confirmed it). Today, the site appears to be down completely (probably undergoing repair).
Since last night, however, the G4, monitoring other active neighbor sites (working fine), I am seeing what looks like the "flash" of a red banner at the bottom of the G4 display following each received voice call.
As I type, I finally saw more than just a flash - it is saying (briefly flashing the message) "Out Of Range".
I can only assume this is happening because one of the adjacent sites is currently down - but I'm not monitoring that site. Seems to suggest that the radio is constantly checking for a better site (which makes sense). I'm just surprised this message is appearing under these conditions.
FWIW - while the failed site was in site trunking mode yesterday, it appear to be up and active but in reality, it appeared to be carrying no traffic at all (other adjacent sites were extremely busy following the storm).
