If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have tg's programmed in and priority tg checked for yes, set up as tg scan mode on a G5.
Will the top of list priority tg still work if I manually select monitor mode?

When setting up TG Scan, you can enable Priority TG ID Option. The way I understand the feature is that the first TG in the Members List will have priority over the other TGs, Further, the second TG has priority over the third TG in the list and so on. My question is will the radio switch from an active TG (of a lower priority) to a TG with higher priority immediately, or does it wait for the end of the transmission?

If you have priority enabled, it will switch during a conversation.
I have a zone set up with local FD.
Position 1 is dispatch, ops 1, ops 2 and so on. It scans them.
Position 2 is Dispatch only.
Position 3 is Ops 1, Ops 2, Ops 3, Dispatch.
I have them in that order so if a fire call goes out and i want to listen i can go to Position 3 and the ops channels will have higher priority. So if Dispatch is talking and they talk on Ops 1, Ops 1 will then be the higher priority and pass audio.

Follow up question: In your last scenario, (knob position 3, listening to dispatch) if a convo starts on Ops2, the radio will immediately switch to Ops 2 because even though it is not the first TG programmed, it is higher in the TG list, thus a higher priority, correct? In other words, priority is inhereted by the order in which the TG is programmed, and priority is not limited to the first TG entered?

Correct,
Priority is selected as top talkgroup has highest, then goes down from there.. so in my programming ops 2 is higher then Dispatch which i set as the third talk group from the top.
if you have 25 talk groups, then number 24 would have higher priority then 25 as well
