The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Here's an odd one. If I set up my G5 for p25 trunking scan, or monitor, it will alert anytime there is voice traffic. However, if I set the alert mode to "silent", it will not pass any voice traffic.

Has anyone had this issue?

Okay, I figured it out. In the group ID settings, you have to change alert mode to "None". That does the trick.

Now to figure out why it passes traffic from other talkgroups than what I assigned while it is TG monitor, and not TG scan.

Isnt TG scan, the way to scan what TG you have in the list.
TG Monitor is the wildcard scan that opens up to every TG on the system.

But i could be wrong.

TG Monitor will stop on all traffic, TG scan only stops on talkgroups you have in that particular knob position.

Ohhhh, I get it now. Even though the wording doesn't make sense. Great, now the customer is going to say "Why does it say scan when it is only showing one talk group?" Ugh....

I'll give it a try.

Also I thought I read somewhere that if u left both alert settings to none that no voice will come through at all after the last firmware update.. I’m just trying to narrow down wich setting I should have it set to if I want zone 1 knob position 1 to scan only my FDs TGs and wich setting of zone one knob 2 I want to hear all traffic on every talk group in that system.

I recall something in David's video from September about this but I don't remember the specifics since two-tone over P25 doesn't work on my system here.

I am not trying to hijack the thread here, but thought it is a comment about your P25 system not passing 2 tone over the system. It is being used here in Louisiana and works reasonable. But the audio level of the tones is critical. If the tone level is too high, it will clip or just get distorted and not get decoded.

If our old VHF dispatch channel is patched into our new TG , being that the VHF is going to be used for dispatching calls only, when our tones are put out will that carry over to the digital TG and alert the pager if I enter it as a 2 tone QC?

That depends on how it's set up in the console. We only send tones on the VHF side currently, but a neighboring jurisdiction sends them over VHF and 800. Your agency will have to do a study on what works best for them.

As of now the old VHF dispatch/ops channel will be fully patched to the new p25 ops TG, so anything that is broadcast on the vhf will go over the TG, I’m just wondering if the tones will “translate” over the digital TG. I’m would think that they will broadcast over the p25 TG just not sure if it will alert the pager

If the tones are coming directly from a Motorola console at SR7.16x or higher, probably will work fine. If coming from a third party tone encoder injected into the console somehow, who knows?

Fair enough.. im not exactly sure what the console is anymore. we are going to a Harris P25 system so they were in there replacing HQ's console with some harris equipment so who knows.
Thanks for the reply

May the odds be ever in your favor then! It's certainly worth a try.
