• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

It seems like since I put the new firmware in, the display seems to flicker more between the "receive voice call" (now colored) screen, and the black zone name screen. Sometimes it seems to flicker a few times when it first goes to the "receive voice call" screen, and sometimes when the "receive voice call" screen comes up it seems to alternate between the colored screen with white letters and back briefly to a black screen with yellow letters, then back to the colored screen with white letters, and sometimes back to the zone name screen while a voice call is still coming in / playing.

I'm linking a brief video clip. Does the way the display is behaving look normal to those of you who have had a G4/5 for a while?

Probably still working the bugs out since this is a feature thats new to most of us.

Also if you think your having issues after an update or programming, perform a battery pull.

Thanks, and I did try the battery pull, but it still seems a bit funky. It's no big deal, since I was just curious what others were seeing, and your thought about this firmware being new and potentially still being a touch buggy makes sense.

Bottom line, Unication is doing cool things, and I support them working through challenges along the way.

I tried red on a couple fire channels and ended up going back to black screen. I did see some jerkyness and chalked it up to the processor doing a lot of stuff.

Yeah same here, and I understand that it's a new feature they are probably still playing with so it's all good.

I did find something that helps though, and that is to turn off the blinking of the colored display in settings. Then it acts more like a scanner and stays solid on the call screen with my colors (blue police / red fire). Once the blinking is turned off it seems to behave in a more stable way. This again seems like one of those features that is made for the intended audience, pager users, where a blinking display is a needed attention grabber in some cases, but may be an annoyance to scanner people using these units for their purposes. The combination of blinking call screen alternating between the colored and black and yellow lettered version and the home screen was just a bit too busy for me personally.
