• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone. Our county recently switched to 800 paging with G4's. I have ours working but wanna make sure that i'm 100% doing things correctly. When it comes to the Control Channels...I have entered our primary and alt control channels. Do I still need to do a full spectrum scan or can it run from just the 2 control channels?? Here is the system we are on:

I have currently the 2 control channels and it full spectrum scan from 851-854. Any advice anyone can give me would be awesome. Thanks in advance for helping out a somewhat newbie.

You should be safe with just the primary and alternate(s), however I think a lot of people recommend to program all channels. Just in case the system changes and some of the voice channels rotate to control channels. So it maybe an overkill, but I would probably put the other 14 in as well.

Edit: I just saw that you are using Unication G4's- didn't pick up what forum this is in, either. I don't think that would change my mind, unless there are drawbacks using all the frequencies with Unications.

Motorola systems are pretty good about being reliable on the primary and alternate control channels.
However i only see 1 alternate. Usually there are 2-4 alternates.
Keep that in mind if the system ever has issues and your pager goes out of range as the system might got to a control channel you dont have programmed.
Harris systems i am told are ones that can use any channel as a control channel.

Given what I see of the system and based on the WACN, I recommend one of these two options:

  • enter all of the site frequencies

  • spectrum scan 851-854

Make sure you've entered the correct WACN, SysID, RFSS and Site values - particularly if using Full Spectrum Scan.
