• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello G5 programming experts. I am making a spreadsheet as I await my G5. I am going with the knob approach for most of my needs.

As fast as a paging knob goes, I would like one knob to scan two frequencies that are simulcast and patched full time. Much like the /\/\ Minitor does.

I will want the G5 to pass audio only after decoding A-B and reset automatically. I Intend to put about 6 tone pairs on this one knob.

TIA

I asked about a paging p25 rebroadcast from an analog system yesterday on the PA forum. I was told the G5 could not do it at this time. The tones will not trigger.

You can't really scan and receive tone pages reliably. While scanning, the delay involved while the radio catches the carrier and stops scanning causes it to miss the first part of the A tone and not decode because it didn't catch the entire tone.

Tried it on my G5 and it was hit or miss, mostly miss. Any "miss" at all in this instance is unacceptable so I had to go with staying on the primary paging channel when not wanting to hear any chatter.

I asked about a paging p25 rebroadcast from an analog system yesterday on the PA forum. I was told the G5 could not do it at this time. The tones will not trigger.

You can do paging over P25 (not while scanning) but it's pretty finicky, and if the dispatch point isn't using the right tone plans, you'll either get nothing, or if two or more departments are using tones too close to each other in frequency, all of them.

I'm still fighting with paging over P25. One thing I've run up against is control points paging over P25 using control stations with AGC enabled; when the tones start, the AGC kicks in and drops the audio level then ramps it back up; this causes the pager to miss the first part of the A tone. But they don't want to disable AGC, because then soft talkers and loud talkers will drive everybody nuts.
