So i was listening to a NXDN system in Northern California (under name Stephen Pass). 461.6125. When scanner stopped on transmission (I'm still monitoring these digital as conventional for now with everything set to search), where the "Color code" or "RAN #" usually shows on the BCD536HP screen, the word "Area0" was showing. Anyone know what this means?

You probably have unit ID turned on, and it's showing the alias (the name for a unit ID assigned by the system administrator).

Area(0 or 1) is associated with NXDN IDAS systems like RAN is associated with NXDN NEXEDGE systems.

Hello,

There tends to be confusion as Icom uses IDAS for their NXDN offerings like Kenwood uses NEXEDGE.

There are two types of trunking systems, called Type-C and Type-D. Originally Kenwood only offered Type-C and Icom only offered Type-D. Some newer radios can do both.

Type-C uses a dedicated control channel and what is labelled RAN is really the site id modulus 64.

Type-D uses a distributed control channel and area bit (0 or 1) like LTR.
