I got this 396XT which will scan the program system then it will start frequncy searching through the scanner frequency bands and just stay in searching. How do I stop the searching and just scan the trunk program system? Below is what the display looks like

Freguency Band
Frequency
S0: 12345
GRP - - - - - - - - - - - -

You have search with scan selected on one or more of the 10 custom searches.
To Edit a Custom Search, press Menu. Scroll to 'Search for...' and press E/yes.
Scroll to 'Edit Custom' and press E/yes.
Scroll to the custom search you want to edit (1-10) and press E/yes

Scroll toSearch with Scan and press E/yes
Scroll toSet Lockout and press E/yes. (Used for 'Search with Scan' only).
Scroll to 'Lockout' and press E/yes to save and exit.

You may need to do this for all 10 custom searches.

Or, while it is in the custom search, pres F+L/O, L/O to lockout the search.

Thank you the search is lock out and scanning, but I think that I accidentally lockout the fire group. So how do I check if I locked out any of the impotent groups?

I went through and lock out the custom search, but now I am getting search call Special, Military Air. Looks like this scanner is setup to search pre set bands.

I went through and locked out the custom searches. When I turn the scanner back on, the scanner will scan the trunk system then start the service searches, so then I Function + L/O which lock the searches out. When I turn the scanner back on, scanner will scan the trunk system then the service searches.

Press lockout twice to permanently lockout the service searches. If you only hit lockout once it only temporarily locks then out.
