You totally missed my point.

Unhappy

I was hoping for Turbo, Huge disappointment here, May get 1 new model so I can listen to Newark NJ fire once again and stay on top of the New State of NJ 700 system but if Turbo was included and LTR Passport so I can listen to the NJ Turnpike Authority I would have replaced my entire 996 fleet.

You may have to hit the site a few times before it will connect. There appear to be a few people clogging it up.

Default Maybe no license agreement or too difficult technically?

I, too, am a bit disappointed that the new units do not support DMR or NDXN, but maybe we should consider that perhaps Uniden was unable to get licensing permission from Motorola to decode it in a commercially available scanner. One of Motorola's major selling points for Mototrbo, I am sure, is that it is "scannerproof". I imagine that is something that Motorola is keen to protect. Perhaps another reason is that to make it feasible, the necessary technology would make it so expensive that nobody would want to buy the unit. Would you pay $1199 for a scanner just to hear Mototrbo? I'm not sure why Uniden did not add DMR or NDXN but I imagine that they considered it, and just couldn't include them in this series of scanners.

Will the app be iOS or android or both?

I can't wait to use the function, i don't understand how you can not be excited about this, always have you radio with you on your phone or table or remote head, it's pretty easy to get a suction cup mount or ram mount for your tablet/phone and removes in seconds, I can't wait for this!

Poo warning I guess...

I love my Unidens and props to them for putting out great radios. That is a really great looking radio and the wi-fi is neat. But... Not that I expected it but without at least TRBO (here in the middle of nowhere Va we have my county and 2 other sheriffs offices, 2 police departments, 2 rescues, and 1 fire dept using TRBO) I can't part with 500-600 bucks just to be able to hear the next county overs phase 2 system when it comes online around the end of next year. If these new models would have also had TRBO I'd have been fighting my way to the front of the line for 2 of them at least. Once the railroads go to NXDN that also is going to be a deal breaker for me but that's neither here nor there.

Thanks for all the fine work Uniden and I looked forward to the next new product announcement.

Is no one talking about the DIGISCAN EXTREME add on to be announced in March 2014. We may still get what we want

Not sure what you are referring to. I admit I didn't pay 100% rapt attention to the video, but the only thing I heard being hinted at for March 2014 was an enhancement to the wifi features.

Can't really comment on handling abilities until I've driven one.

Some very nice and handy 'gimmick' based and practical features though on the units, but I'm dissapointed in the lack of ability to handle newer protocols.

Some of which have made HUGE inroads over here in Australia. It would be nice to see Uniden offer an explanation as to why some of these protocols, especially any open source ones, have been left out.

Would it still be the old 'cost to the end user' explanation?

Well now I am not sure. It is a sharp looking radio and the bigger display is great. I like the fact that you can see more of the info you are scanning. But lacking NXDN, I may go and get a BC996XT.

Do they display colors change like the 996XT?

As a Motorola Authorized Dealer Technician, I too am Bummed that it doesn't seem to support DMR. It's a huge pain in my rump to keep reprogramming my trbo HT every time I want to monitor a system, and since it only supports one trunked system at a time, I'm constantly switching videos if I want to talk to the shop on our connect plus system. That said, my boss will probably be expensing several of these in January.

Hmmm, dunno about that.

You can buy DMR transceivers for <$500 now, so if they can produce a transceiver with licensed/legit DMR for that price, surely you could incorporate it into a scanner.

My guess is that there are serious licensing/propriety issues with decoding the Mototrbo flavored DMR.
But, there are plenty of conventional and open standard DMR networks out there that could be incorporated with no such limitations. It may even be possible to incorporate the open standard (non Motorola) DMR trunking.

Mototrbo is just another propriety trunking system that the big 'M' uses to prevent open market competition for it's customers and to try and protect it's shrinking market share.

Do you know why there is no scanner with TRBO capability by chance? is licensing of of the technology too expensive or simply not available? I am just curious because TRBO is replacing almost everything up here in Canada including the few remaining old EDACS and LTR systems that are still operating in the old analog more.

Beautiful looking radios, P25 phase 2 support is nice but I would love to know why TRBO isn;t a scannable format yet.

I am cringing to think of what the Canadian retailers are going to charge.. they were getting away with $699 for 396XTs when they first came out.

As always, it'll be someone like Scanner Master for me.

Jay I got the Download to go threw but it looks like you have to open it kind of like, the way you had to do when getting new software for the 396 or 996 if I figure out again how to set into my files these are always fun to learn to do..
