Snowbird

The listing in RR for snowbird is not correct. They sunsetted the system listed here and they have gone with a MOTOTrbo system.

Ski Resorts Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I tried to capture their system with my BCD436HP but the MotoTrbo decoding in the radio is really bad.

Here's a good related post. In it they talk about it being encrypted but I was hearing conversations no problem. I just couldn't nail down how the system worked.

I have found four active licenses for Snowbird Resort, and monitored the frequencies in those licenses for DMR. My results:

WQKU555 - Snowbird Resort, LLC
Iron Blossom Lodge
451.9625 DMR DCC=12 TG=777 slot=1 and TG=781 slot=2, Alg=BP
452.4 NO DMR
461.4125 DMR DCC=12 TG=778 slot=1 and TG=782 slot=2, Alg=BP (DMR co-channel user DCC=10 TG=2 Slot=2)
461.5125 NO DMR

WSS863 - Snowbird Resort, LLC
Hidden Peak, Cliff Lodge, The Lodge, Snowbird Plz
461.45 NO DMR
461.6375 DMR DCC=11 TG=777 slot=1 and TG=781 slot=2, Alg=BP
463.525 DMR DCC=11 TG=778 slot=1 and TG=782 slot=2, Alg=BP
463.7625 NO DMR
464.0125 NO DMR
464.675 NO DMR
464.9 NO DMR
464.975 NO DMR

WPUJ410 - Snowbird Resort, LLC
Hidden Peak
451.4 DMR and NXDN received on frequency, but I do not believe it is related to Snowbird.

WPNZ835 - Snowbird Resort, LLC
Cliff Lodge, Tram Bldg
452.3 NO DMR
461.5875 NO DMR
461.7125 NO DMR
461.8125 DMR DCC=10 TG=785 slot=1, Alg=BP
462.45 NO DMR
463.2 NO DMR
463.8875 DMR DCC=10 TG=786 slot=2, Alg=BP
463.975 NO DMR
464.9375 DMR received on frequency, but I do not believe it is related to Snowbird.

The only frequency I see mentioned previously in this thread is 452.4. The only digital I heard on that frequency was an NXDN system in Summit County.

Alg=BP indicates encryption. On DMR systems, BP is basic protection, and EP would be enhanced protection. Encrypted NXDN systems I have found all show Alg=Sc, ("scramble").

One final point of clarification, DSDplus shows DMR on these Snowbird frequencies, not Cap+, Con+, or TIII.

I'm really happy to see progress being made on this system. I'm slightly confused, you indicate that Alg=BP (Basic Privacy Encryption), but someone else earlier in this thread: http://forums.radioreference.com/ut...rum/190288-snowbird-mototrbo.html#post2709091 indicates he heard in the clear ...

I'll continue watching both threads - if I can help you make progress here, let me know.

My scanning experience is quite old - until recently I didn't have a new to scan anything not analog, and certainly not a trbo system, but am trying to learn as best as possible.
Could you clarify something - is this a trunked system or not? You indicate various TGs, but no control channel.

The system is not trunked, though two sites do appear to be linked. I did the monitoring from Kearns, with a substantial commercial antenna on a 40' tower. So there is some possibility of additional sites that are just not propagating out of the canyon.

Conventional DMR systems have a DCC and a talkgroup. I know we're used to 'talkgroup' being a term exclusively associated with trunking.

In some applications, like this one, a talkgroup exclusively uses either slot 1 or slot 2. In others you will find a talkgroup can use either.

In programming the Hytera DMR radios I use, I have the choice, Slot 1, Slot 2, or 'pseudo-trunk'.

If the other guy believes he has found Snowbird traffic in the clear, then we will have to wait until he posts more information to see just what he has.
