According to WDIV News here in Detroit, the U.S. Coast Guard is searching for four NFL players who are missing on a boat. Detroit Lions defensive end Corey Smith and Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper were two of the four passengers who were reported missing. The search is taking place in the Gulf of Mexico, off the Clearwater, Florida coast.

The Coast Guard has encountered wind gusts of up to 72 kilometers per hour, and waves reaching over 3 meters high, which is making the search even more difficult. Likewise, they have a very large area in the Gulf of Mexico to search for the lost vessel.

Has anyone heard any traffic from this event on HF?

UPDATED (4:14 p.m.)...

Two NFL players, defensive end Corey Smith of the Detroit Lions and linebacker Marquis Cooper of the Oakland Raiders, are among four people on a fishing boat reported missing off the Gulf Coast of Florida, according to broadcast and print reports in the Tampa area.

The reports, citing Coast Guard officials, say that the four people left the Clearwater, Fla., area on a 21-foot fishing boat around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

The boat is believed to be in distress, according to the reports. The waters there in the Gulf of Mexico reportedly are extremely choppy and Coast Guard crews are searching a 750-square-mile area for the boat.

Yes. If you join the Yahoo group, "HF Monitors" you can hear a recording of a USCG C-130 that I caught. It's not very "exciting" but it is from that USCG SAR event.

It's in the Files -> N7ZYA folder.
