• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have two VX-510s that I am trying to program, I have the software and I purchased a programming cable from ebay. When I tried to program for the first time the programming cable that I bought would not fit in the mic jack, as the software says. So I went to radio shack and bought an adapter to go from 3.5mm jack to 2.5mm jack and so far everything is fitting in the appropriate inputs. I hook it up to my computer and follow the instructions to read the radio and it doesn't read. So I tried to just program one channel, and when I try to write it to the radio I get an error saying "Problem detected with connection to interface box. Transfer aborted." Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

probably a cable issue.

Also that adapter could be changing the pinouts needed. Are you sure you got the correct cable.

The vx510l uses a part from the vpl-1 kit.

I bought a cable that is supposed to replace the VPL-1 setup, it is a direct cable from the serial port to the radio. It appears the same as the a factory Vertex cable. Since my first post I have taken the radios to a buddy of mine who works for a radio shop and programs Vertex radios on a regular basis, he hooked up his factory Vertex cable, although he had to use the adapter the I bought from radio shack, and still no luck. So it might possibly be the adapter.

So does anyone know where I can get a Vertex pigtail adapter? I have been looking around and I can't seem to find one.
