• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey folks I'm new to the programming part of things here and I have tried to google all the info I can plus you tube and on and on. I have seen nothing that gives me a good look at how to program my vx-2500 using ce52 or ce52e ... Does anyone know or have a link for a tutorial on using this software? I have everything I need just not the walk through on the process.

Thanks

First there are two different software packages. The CE52 does the VX2500U/VX3200. The CE47 does
the 2500U(A), (C), (D), (F) models. Assuming you have the correct software the next step is to
determine whether you need the radio on before you try to read from it, or the radio needs to be off and
then turned on for reading. I don't recall which method works with the VX-2500U. Start up the software and
select "Radio".On the drop down menu select "Read". If you get a "time out" or other error message during
the read process, try the other method. Which ever one works you should see some sort of progress bar as
the radio is read. After reading its basically a matter of clicking on the column you want to change and using the
space bar to run thru the selections for that column. You can select or deselect a channel by
clicking on the channel number and hitting the space bar. Grey-out means radio skips this channel,
hit space bar again and channel is in active list.
Note if you have just one channel programmed and you want to add a channel(s), select "Group"
from the main menu and select "Channel allocations..." You can then type in the number of channels
you want in Group 1 (or 2 etc.). The drop down "Help" menu will give you more information on each
selection. When finished, select "Radio" and click "Send to Radio." Hope this helps to get you
started.

VX-2500V

Not that familiar with the V series. Seems to be some difference in frequency band coverage
from other sources. One source says it is a dual band radio, covering 134 thru 174 Mhz., and
450 thru 490 Mhz.
Another source only shows it as 134 thru 174 Mhz. Either way, it won't cover the CB band
down at 26 Mhz.
Maybe the guy at the Radio Shop was thinking of FRS or MURS in the UHF band.
Whether your new or old in radio world, this is a great site to learn more about radios.
