To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I am attempting to program a standard horizon HX 400 radio. When I attempt to read from the radio it says communication issue. Any ideas on how I can start troubleshooting. Has this happened to anyone before.

Thanks

yes i am having problems also. I have both ce129 and ce 138 and still unable to program?? I have draw a blank in what to do next. I did talk to standard horizon on the phone and they told me the best thing to do is to send it back to them and they will program it for me?? Personally i would rather be able to do it on my own so that i can change channels and frequenceys around when wanted. The program keeps telling me "communication failed" and will never even read to radio or read from radio?? let me know if you have found out anything with your hx 400 i would be very interseted in knowing
Thanks, Calvin

Important information needed: Computer, OS, software and type of programming cable. The software may be old enough that it will not work with newer USB cables.

thanks for the reply. I have tried it on windows XP, 7, and 10. I am using CE 138 I was told this was one of the never softwares for this radio. The cable is a usb after market type of cable that I got off of the internet. I am beginning to think it is the cable. Any suggestions on getting another cable just to see if this is the problem? I also do scanner and Motorola radios on these computers so I know that these work fine. Thanks for the help.

Standard Horizion CE 129 / 138

Hi CC and others. I also am having a problem programming my HX380 radio. I got a cable and "software" from RT systems but the "software" is only USB drivers. The cable is Model USB57B. Supposedly for my radio, (HX380), I need Standard Horizon CE138 Version 2. I called Standard Horizon Tech Support and found out that the radios, (HX400 and HX 380) are serial number specific in reference to the software type and version. CC, I am also in Myrtle Beach. Maybe we can meet up and combine my cable with your software. I also have CE 129 but Tech Support says it wont work. I am also a Ham Operator.

I can successfully program my HX400s with the following combinations:

Combination #1:
Windows XP
CE138 V1.0.0
Cable: RT Systems USB-57B
Note: Had to assign a COM port to the USB-57 in the control panel, and select that same COM port in the CE138 software

Combination #2:
Windows XP
CE 138 V1.0.0
Cable: CT-111 and CT-91 adapter, attached to true serial port.
Note: be sure to correctly choose the serial port you have the CT-111 attached to in the software.

Combination #3:
Windows XP
CE 129 V1.0.0
Cable: CT-111 and CT-91 adapter
Note: be sure to correctly choose the serial port you have the CT-111 attached to in the software.

I have NEVER been able to get CE138 V2.0.0 to work

I hope that helps.

I have a couple of the early HX-400s. After reading all the problems with aftermarket cables due to fake chips, I bought the RT Systems USB-57B cable, it is just plug and play on my old Windows XP's. The cable will also program a bunch of Yaseu and Vertex HT's. This cable does not have the threads but does have a longer neck to go in past the threads but will work in the none threaded HAM stuff like the FT-60R. Generic cable sometimes don't go all the way in because of the threads. I use the CE-129 software. The newer CE-138 is due to the FCC mandate of narrow banding. More info over on the Yahoo HX-370/400 user group.

I have a new HX400, and the CE138v2 does not work. Evidently this requires YCE13? Anyone have a lead on this software?
