• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I recently purchased a VX2200 to use in my Side-by-side. I am curious about a couple things and hoped this would be a good place to get information.

1) What is the factory default settings for the configurable buttons and channel frequencies?
2) I have read quite a bit about programming it but does anyone use a Mac? I just gave away my last windows Machine.

Thanks for any help especially with number 1.

Rick,
If or when, you have the software installed to program the radio it will give you the default settings. Files DefaultV.c82 is for the VHF radios; DefaultUA.C82 and DefaultUD.C82 are for the UHF bands. When you start the software it should come up with one of these default programs. These files are
in Version 3.01 software for the VX-2200. Assume will be same with other software versions.

Sorry, I can't help on your Mac question.

Since #1 has already been answered, I'll help with your second question.

While there is no Mac software that I know of for programming VX-2200s, you can install Windows inside your Mac using Virtualization software. I actually do this with Windows 10 as my host.

Getting a USB programming cable to pass through to from Windows 10 and appear as a COM port in my Windows XP Virtual computer took a few minutes, but it has been working fine ever since.

Check out the free OSX download of VirtualBox at https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. You'll also need an old XP install CD or iso file to set up XP within your VirtualBox.

Once you have XP running on the VirtualBox from OSX, you can install the VX-2200 software and do all your programming.

Please bear in mind I'm speaking theoretically regarding the MAC as I don't have one. However I have used this technique on both Windows 10 and Linux machines to run older versions of Windows software.

HTH!
