Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Relatively (but not altogether) new to the world of programming VHF radios.

I have a VX-2200 that I have set up for a number of direct channels and a few repeater channels. It seems like the radio is unable to open the repeater channels.

Direct TX and RX works great. For the repeater channels, when I transmit from the VX-2200, I see the Transmit LED go on, but I can hear nothing on another radio listening to the repeater, until I release the PTT button the VX-2200. Then I get a short burst of sub-second noise.

I know that the RX and TX frequencies and codes are programmed correctly on the VX-2200 (I have identical settings on my other radios which work for both TX and RX, and I have double and triple checked).

I can RX the repeater channel fine on the VX-2200, so I know I haven't mixed up the TX and RX columns. :)

I have the identical behavior on all repeaters I have tried.

Any idea what I might be missing?

You are experiencing the same thing that's been discussed here numerous times over the years. Your receiving radio's front end is being "desensed," that is too much signal input is swamping the front end.

The fact that you can hear the repeater's squelch tail indicates that you are in fact reaching the repeater.
