Allen,

Tnx. I agree it is the Div 3 Amelia VDOT STARS site 232. Presently the PRI CC is S9+ here. I'll run Pro96Com.

My records show the only remaining STARS sites needing info are:

Div 4: Site 229/ I77 Rest Stop: Reported PRI CC = 161.8125 mhz.

Div 4: Unknown Wise Co. STARS site location excluding High Knob.

Do you have something actually reading that as site 232? Pro96com shows decimal for this site as 1-32, and hex as T0120. Also remember that Amelia is in Div.1, although it borders two Div.3 counties.

Allen,

This situation reminds me of the early 2000s when our small monitoring group was attempting to id the various STARS sites based on Pro96Com findings and what was posted on the RR database. I never quite figured out the RR scheme but the bottom line seemed to be all STARS sites were either "1nn" or "2nn" which is the scheme I've used for the past 12+ years. If it wasn't correct I'm sure Richard or one of the others would have corrected me. Unless I am mistaken all STARS sites including Division 3 and west are "2nn" and all those east of Division 3 "1nn".

You may remember years ago there was a period when "Thornburg" was considered to be a Division 2 site. Then it was a Division 1 site. Regarding Division 3, if my memory is correct, VSP mobiles were having difficulty maintaining dependable comms in Amelia Co., which as you posted, abuts Cumberland Co. and Prince Edward Co. on the west side. Therefore there was a need for another repeater site along that NE/SW corridor. In hindsight, the Cumberland site should have resolved the Division 3 side of the issue and Amelia Co. should resolve the Division 1 side and has been changed to reflect a Division 1 site.

In my opinion the Amelia site then should be "132" vice "232". I checked all sites in my files and none had "132" previously listed for any site id.

I checked 152.7275 mhz. earlier using my R7000 just to get a signal which was good. However, further checking using a 996XT showed I wasn't receiving the Amelia PRI CC. I actually was hearing the Warsaw STARS site's PRI CC which also used 152.7275 mhz. Once again a monitoring victim of a STARS PRI CC frequency reuse. So to possibly receive the Amelia site at home I would have to program the voice channels as conventional.

Tnx. See my reply to Allen. The concern goes back to the early days of STARs installations when a physical site location might not be in the same Division boundaries or for different division assignment reasons. I believe also Fork Mtn. years ago was another site in question. Is it in Division 1 or Division 2? Anyway, it's straight now.

I have my doubts about STARS sites being assigned to or designed for any particular VSP division. AFAIK they primarily figure in to planning and distributing talkgroups--and even then only to statewide agencies who don't have geographic divisions of their own. Once you dismiss VSP divisions as a system design factor, the behavior of the various sites seems more logical to me.

Fortunately we have had years of monitoring experience and have learned some things along the way. I did some more testing this morning with my 536 and confirmed I am hearing the Amelia VDOT.

Correction on a voice freq. My Pro96com readout says that 152.8025 is actually 152.0825. Number transposition on my part.
