Have a look in "sdrtrunk_app.log" in "SDRTrunk\logs" to see if JMBE has loaded.

When you have P25 channel started there should be an entry in the log:

If not loaded, then file is not where it should be or is bad.
If is loaded, then issue is else where.

I don't use P25 so I can't help beyond that.

THANKS for the informative response. I found the log - or at least the one from last night. I have concerns. Here are the log contents pertinent to our discussion:

I think that the radio is not being fully accessed since the lower right panel on the Tuner tab is grayed out even though a radio shows in the rest of the panel.

Another concern. What relative size is the JMBE Library file? Mine is around 69 KB. Seems small. Makes me wonder if it's really all there... smile.

How many dongles you using?

Outside of SDRTrunk do the dongles work? (like in SDR#).
You may need to re-run Zadig.

Is your PC CPU OK. When pooling dongles like SDRTrunk does it can be taxing on the system.
Poor CPU performance can affect USB throughput.
A tool called RTLTool can test this and check available sample rates.
RTLTool

69Kb sounds right - It's only the decoder part.

I ran the test - and it produced nothing... I tried both versions of the test software. It found the dongles and allowed me to select one. I tested both. I selected no bits, then 1 - 7 sequentially, then all except zero. Clicking the test button produced no change in the tool. I think it reads the name but can't fully connect to it just like SDRTunk. The dongles work with other softwares like SDR# but have issues when changing frequencies.

I am using two dongles. They had worked surprisingly well for a good amount of time both with SDRTrunk and with other softwares. Both dongles being used by SDRTrunk and in a configuration where one dongle used SDRTrunk (or was used by it) and the other running other software (supplying signal to that other software). That was on an old but 3 year old then new Windows 10 PC with memory maxed out. Since that time I acquired a new PC. I believe it to be a good VR machine. I will test however. I would be surprised if that were the issue. Especially since they worked well until a Windows 10 update.

I will continue to work with Zadig but have done that. I will continue to work with it... PC CPU should be fine as it is new. Also, they worked on old PC until the driver install issues.

The 'RTLTool' "Dongle Test" when run, you should see data transferred with no BYTEs lost.

If BYTEs are lost then stop and continue OK then usually dongle is no good at that sample rate.

If BYTEs are continually lost with the selected sample rate (ie. 2.4) then a problem exists. Usually CPU and or USB throughput.

If no data is transferred then there maybe be an issue with hardware or drivers.

Not sure what "Set GPIO bits" is for. (for what dongle that is)

Other than re-installing drivers and a power cycling PC, you could try connecting dongles via powered USB hub. A recent Win10 update caused people issues. Zadig was the answer in there case.

This issue seems less like SDRTrunk problem now. Hope you can get it backup and running.

I ran RTLTOOL and it did absolutely nothing. Played with it for some time, chose the dongle, selected pins, pressed test, etc.. Bits were 0 0 0 in the top right panel. So...

When the dongle is running with SDRTrunk on my old PC it tuns fine. The Tuners tab, after the tuner is selected, is populated with data and controls. On the new machine - that doesn't really happen. Therefore I suspect it is not hardware related since it does two different things on two different machines.

I have power cycled the new PC many times and changed ports with same results every time. I do have a powered USB hum and also tried directly plugged into the PC.

The ports on the new PC are USB 3 but they worked until the Windows 10 update and a Zadig re-install. Then things got funky.

Thanks for the smart, logical steps to try!

Default JMBE Build Fails - 3 incompatible and 1 stopped Daemons could not be reused,

Denny - I am following these steps: https://github.com/DSheirer/jmbe and my Java passes the tests.
When I CD to the correct folder and run the bat file it produces a jar file but it will not run.
The build process throws the following erroors:

You've built the JMBE library, so all you have to do now is copy that library file to the same folder as the sdrtrunk application and then launch the application.

Download the sdrtrunk release from the releases page, if you haven't already:
https://github.com/DSheirer/sdrtrunk/releases

Copy the JMBE library file that you just created to the same folder where you've downloaded the sdrtrunk application. The JMBE library file should be named: jmbe-0.3.3b.jar

Double-click the sdrtrunk application file, or in a console/terminal window change to the download folder and type:
java -jar (applicationfilename)

Denny - thanks. The application throws the error:

The application (SDRTrunk) starts and loads channels. The bottom right box of the Tuners tab, after I have clicked on a tuner, is grayed out except for "Please select a tuner". It will play no audio but I can see the signals on the waterfall and all other tabs seem normal.

The application files are direct copies from my old PC. The same RTLSDR dongle works fine with the same application (version, etc) on the old PC. I have examined all the tabs and don't see an adjustment I need to make are change. Here is the output of the command you gave me: I do see in the output dump the following: ".usb4java.LibUsbException". Some Java issue? I am running Java 10 and have it configured in Windows 10 the same, including folder locations, names, contents and Path and other Environment Variables as on the old PC.

It looks like your JMBE library loaded successfully, so that issue is resolved.

The second issue is your tuner. Does this tuner work ok with other SDR applications like SDR#?

The error indicates that sdrtrunk is trying to set the center frequency and the USB software (libusb) is throwing an error that it can't communicate with the tuner.

If the driver is installed correctly, you may want to try unplugging the tuner and replugging to reset the device.

It does start and play audio with work ok with other SDR applications like SDR#. It is a little funky and used to work nearly perfectly (heat issues, etc excepted). When I re-tune I have to stop and re-start the software, and then it is good.

I suspect driver but did unplug and re-plug. When I re-install driver with Zadig.exe it doesn't find the same driver that it used to find. Is there a way to manually install it or otherwise place it where it can be found?

I only have a limited working knowledge of Zadig driver installs ... maybe someone else here can provide help?

What dongles do you use? Image if possible.

Are you using a precompiled version of SDRTrunk (I don't mean the JMBE) or did you compile it yourself?

Looking at the log you posted and all the USB devices (just a quick lookup):

Mouse, Bluetooth, WiFi?, USB hub, USB audio dongle, USB controller, Wifi dongle?, USB Hub, UPS, USB Controller, USB controller, USB audio dongle.

Are you running Windows 10 and your SDR stuff (SDRTrunk, SDR#) in a VM?
Are your dongles connected to that host?

If yes then this is going to complicate things. Especially with all those USB devices.

If you are not, try and test by removing some if not all of those attached devices. There is a high probability that there is a conflict going on there.

Default Substantial Progress!

The VHF RTLSDR seems to be working nicely with the software - albeit no audio yet... The HF RTLSDR with SpyVerter is still in the old error state.

No audio heard yet, but for the VHF radio the error that was being thrown is gone and the bottom right section of the Tuners tab is now populated and functional! It "looks like it is working fine", although I have heard no audio out from it yet. Maybe a slow day or may need to select another input or may be additional issues. I will continue to monitor and tweek and get back here if issues remain.

What I did and what helpd:

Yes - this is a Windows 10 PC. Just a straight boot but it is a gaming PC with 16 processors. VM - unsure but I don't think so. Not sure how to check that.

I pulled all USB devices out and found I no longer had a mouse and keyboard functioning. Plugged them back in. Mouse worked. Not keyboard. Decided to reboot. No way to input password. DUH! But - AHA! The machine has USB ports and front and back of machine. All are USB 3 high speed. Pulled keyboard from front port and plugged into backend port. Bingo! Keyboard restored. Logged in.

Decided if that worked for keyboard - maybe the same for RTLSDR? Sure enough! To be fair, I had had several issues that I cleared over the past few days with JAVA - multiple versions, etc..

I will continue to monitor and tweak - than you!!!

Denny - I have seen some blue CALL activity being decoded but have heard no audio. I have exhausted all audio connection experimentation.

I did notice - in the Audio Panel - there is no speaker icon. Rather, there is a dot. If I click that an M (muted probably) appears on the right for the two sides of audio - right and left. That makes me wonder if there is some application issue, etc.. What can I try next?

Do you get system audio in Windows 10.
Can you play a video or music file OK.
If you adjust volume slider do you get a sound?
Are all the mixer level set OK, nothing to low or muted?
If no sound, right click speaker on system tray and select "Playback devices" and see what the default device is.
If you do get sound, do you still get something like this show in your SDRTrunk log?

Denny - long replies below, but after doing that documentation I read what I thought was your signature on your e-mail. Looked like another question. That provided progress:

I set-up a channel tuned to an NBFM station (118.325) and I do get audio. It is distorted but I can hear the modulated signal barely. On SDR# it is stronger.

There is the possibility that the one dongle with channel tuning issue is bad.
This is why I asked in follow post to try and rule that out.

- Great thought, but don't think so. Hardware worked fine on old PC but with some re-tuning issues.
Can't rule-out hardware issues, and it's been some time since I've had the speakers plugged-in on
the old PC. Will try that. Might be that now that the basic functionality is restored on new PC both
new and old are at same functionality. I will do additional testing once Michigan storms clear.
- I guess for $30 or so (having spare ports on new PC) I maybe can try a new dongle and see.
Agree - does seem close to resolution. I am re-reading the set-up of the audio / identifiers. A couple of more questions:
- Once started I get static on the waterfalll although the waterfall does work. Once I click on TUNERS and then MAIN the waterfall shows what seems to be a good radio signal populated waterfall. Seems I didn't have to do that click before... may be mistaken.
- If I have the following output from the software, what frequency should I have set-up as a channel?
I have 853.962500 and 853.87500 and 854.98750 and I am in NW Lower MI.

Yes, but it doesn't on the new PC. You have 1 tuner functioning. You need to look at call activity to see if this is happening.
