A little new to control channel decoding. I'm in a heavy Motorola PII area and would like to decode the control channels to see what else is out there. I've never done the dongles but I do have several scanners - 996P2, 536, WS1098, TRX-2 and several other older ones. I just really want to plug in and decode. Pro96Com, Unitrunker?? I would like to be able to decode the towers, talk groups and user IDs.

Thanks!

I use my TRX-2 with Pro96Com which provides the information you seeking. The instructions included with the download are very helpful.

That I can't tell you, but I do know they have been testing. I think they are trying to iron out the CC and VC bugs.

Who are you and how do you know this? DSD+ gives a nice visual display for Phase I & II, but only lets you hear Phase I audio. We've been hoping for about the last 2 years now to get Phase II audio listening.

Well, I hope you're right. But people have been saying oh it's coming, they're working on it, etc. for a long time now. So are you a DSD+ tester person on the inside?

That really doesn't mean much, as DSD+ has always decoded the Phase II TDMA talkgroup activity coming over the control channel...it's the voice that it doesn't yet process.

I'm not suggesting that DSD+ won't eventually decode Phase II TDMA voice, however if you're basing your prediction that "it's in the final testing stage" solely on the fact that you're seeing DSD+ decode the control channel messages for TDMA talkgroups...it's done that for years.

If you want to see what is going on unitrunker will display it all for you along with DSD+, meaning either one will do it at this point.

Who are you and how do you know this? DSD+ gives a nice visual display for Phase I & II, but only lets you hear Phase I audio. We've been hoping for about the last 2 years now to get Phase II audio listening.

Does the public release of DSD+ (1.101) provide the channel activity display for Phase II, or does only the FastLane version do that?

I've been playing around with the public release and I have FMP tuned to a Phase II control channel. I then launch DSDPlus and it appears to recognize the NAC, but it never shows any channel activity.

Perhaps I'm doing it wrong, do I need to use SDSharp to deliver the control channel "audio"?

Free Unitrunker (v.1 or v.2) and a $25 RTL-SDR dongle lets you log what is going on with the control channel with a PC. Use the scanners you already own to listen. Or you can build a cheap Raspberry Pi computer, load OP25, and decode and listen to P25 P1&P2. I've been running OP25 in a terminal window, and UT2 logging the same system simultaneously - fun experiment.

I don't care about the audio, but it will decode and show talk group IDs & user IDs?

Both Unitrunker 1 and Unitrunker 2 + rtl-sdr will show TGIDs RIDs, and lots of other interesting system data - for an investment of ~ $25 for the sdr. The software is free.
