I have never had my hands on the 325. I have had the 396xt which is the same form factor which I find too small.

I have seen a lot of commentary on the forms that the 436 handles digital simulcast the best out of all the scanners available.

436 - especially if you get the GPS - (or make your own via instructions found on the forums) and take the time to program the rectangles.

You can use this tool to define bounding boxes for cities, counties, states, etc.

Imagine your scanner changing to the right frequencies as you drive - no diddling around.

I'll give you an example:

Here is the rectangles already compiled for all of WSP's districts.

I recently upgraded from the BC246T analog trucked scanner to the 436HP. Listening quality and quantity has greatly improved. Aside from a few nuances such as not charging the batteries while using AC power or the volume control knob , it is a great device!!! Love it!

That's a good point. Like many here on the boards I recommend using a quality smart charger instead of using the radio as a charger. Have at least one extra set of cells, and use quality NiMH cells such as Eneloops. The Maha MH-C9000 is often quoted here as a fine smart charger. I've been using a La Crosse BC-1000 for five years now and have been very happy with it. The Eneloops I bought at that time are still going strong. I run a Discharge/Refresh cycle on them about once a year.

The programming architecture for the 536/436 isn't really all that different from the BCD396XT. The main difference is Favorites Lists, which are just a way of organizing systems. If you are happy with how you have your 396 set up, then I'd make one Favorites List and begin to organize your systems in it in a similar fashion to how you have your 396 set up. Start small, with just a few systems. Use Quick Keys and Number Tags in a similar way to how you use them on your 396. Once you get comfortable, make some more Favorite Lists, add more systems, start dividing things up. I like to have one Favorite List that contains a general scan list for the whole region, then a Favorite List for each County. But that's just me, you may have some other way of organizing that works better for you.
