I am running a small remote shack containing 4 old PRO-197 scanners with up to date firmware. I monitor basically only 3600 800MHz analog and digital systems, and one of them is quite distant, and on the edge of reception at times. Would the newer WS1065 and Radio Shack PRO-652's have better reception on 800MHz, or firmware updates that the older PRO-197 would be getting, that make them more desirable?

In another thread, Whistler representatives indicated that they solved some problems which GRE had not solved in their designs. Whistler might not have changed the Pro-197 when they began producing the Pro-652 and WS1065. But, the WS1065 will have continuing support, and the possibility of future firmware updates. Because of Radio Shack Inc.'s business-problems, the Pro197 will not have future updates, and the Pro 652 might not either. If you are choosing between those three, you might want to consider getting the Whistler-branded scanner just because of continuing support.

Hope this helps,

You already have the 197s. You are not going to improve your reception wit a 652, or 1065. Unless your area moves to a phase 2 system, your money would be better spent on a better antenna and coax
