What does a black square with an white "S" mean on my dispaly when scanning.

Believe is means a signal is present (breaking squelch).

I thought that the S meant it was searching for a control channel and the T means it is locked one one.
I could be wrong.

Maybe it could be dmr. My psr800 shows that when I do a dmr trunking system.

I've noticed that it only appears when I'm receiving a TDMA system (P25 P2/DMR). Maybe the 'S' stands for slot?

You should see slot /color on bottom of the display

page 19 of my 1080 manual states S=the radio's squelch circuit is open, T=the scanner is currently receiving trunking control channel data.
