Hey, to all the members who have submitted Wiki articles on RR - a hearty THANK YOU!!

When I started scanning 30+ years ago, all I had to understand how radio frequencies work was my Scanner Master book - and it was GOOD for the times, but, there were things I never understood. Fast forward 30ish years and we have the internet! My husband and I just retired and I want to get back into scanning, but felt kind of lost. Hubby's career and education is in telecommunications, but his work used a very different application than scanning, so his help is somewhat limited. (Plus, when he explained something and I didn't get it immediately, he got frustrated, LOL! :lol

Anyway, thank you so much for excellent, easy to understand articles!

Its the only way to go, helpful and easy. For the vast majority of us, the KISS principle fully applies. We often forget that not everyone has the education in the field of telecommunications of an sytems engineer, or the technical savvy of an 20 year comms specialist. So we need to drop out to the simplest formats of explaining things, especially now that even scanners are now pretty complex electronic devices compared to just the tech used just a few years ago. When explaining how things work now, I often have to put myself in the shoes of: How would you explain an Uniden BCD396XT operation to yourself, or how an Motorola ASTRO-25 TRS system functions when you were just learning the joys of scanning? Yes in depth hard core tech talk has its place. But not for assisting those just getting feet wet in the scanner hobby. Oh sure, I wish everyone could delve into forensic scanning etc... But that is very rare for those that have less than 3 or more years in the game. So we have to take the step back to help others get to where we are and then beyond! And most of the articles in the wiki, including the *talk* contributions are outstandingly written to inform others!

Milf, that's a great philosophy! I know it really IS hard to re-frame your knowledge and break it down to basics for newbies. You've done a great job, though! Thumbs up!
