I heard rebanding may start today. Please check the Waukesha County TRS reband thread If you you have questions about how to program your scanner or get firmware update. No reason to ask the same questions here. You will need to add the new frequencies
851.0875
851.1500
851.1750
851.5375
851.5875
851.6500
852.0375
852.0625
852.8500
853.0625
853.1625
853.2375
853.5500
853.6125
853.6375
There should be 1 or 2 new frequencies , but we will have to wait and see what they are. They will take them from the P25 system.

I programmed all of the new frequencies in a separate bank as conventional and they are testing a few of the frequencies as of this morning. Just tones and beeps but no voice yet. This way, I can get a better idea when they completely switch over and then program them as trunk track.

Yeah they are still on the 1st channel 851.0875. I guess MCTRS still has a lot of older stuff that takes longer to set up.
This might take about 2 days to complete if it takes 2 hours for each of the older stuff to be set up and retuned.
The 853.1625 you hear is House of Correction using conventional back up for some reason. 136.5 PL
853.5500 is Transit Data

I loaded all the re-banded frequencies into my PSR600, and I'm waiting for them to pull the switch.

That might not be until later tonight, or maybe even tomorrow. They ran into a problem.
Only one channel was worked on so far.

I heard that anouncement as well and as I write this 851.0875 is making some "Startreck" noises. The best advise has been give in that to just stay tuned and see what happens since it was a given that problems would come up at some point. Just so long as vital communications are not serverly disrupted. I'm just glad I'm on vacation this week and next so I get to hear the changeover.

That's how it sounds when they are aligning a channel on one of the old things. I call it thing because I forgot what they are called :) I guess all the sites have about 8 of the old things, and the rest are newer like Waukesha Counties.
You can watch the signal bar on scanner when they are aligning

I think it's done as of about 10 minutes ago. I reprogramed a bank with the new frequencies and suddenly, the thing started tracking whereas another bank with the old ones was active right before.

I'm tracking the re-banded system with the new re-banded frequencies and some of the non-re banded frequencies that are still being used. It looks like there is still more work to be done with the frequencies.

Old MCTRS Gone ?

Sounds like the switch has been made -- I don't see the old control channel anymore. I need to change my radio to trunktrack it, but I hear a control channel on 852.0625.

They still have 851.1500, 852.0375 & 853.6125 to do, But the reband control channel is up for good.
So it pretty much is over for any old scanner

In your original post you mentioned that there should be 1 or 2 new frequencies. Do we know what those are? That is, should I program my radios with your original list, or maybe wait a few days?

Also, if you know, I'm curious how the switch took place this morning. That is, were the MCTRS and Nextel people on the phone saying, "ok, 5..4..3..2..1..switch!" This morning I was hearing what I assume were Nextel users on the 851, 852, 853 freqs. So did they just get switched over to new ones at the exact same instant that the MCTRS people all got switched? Is this just "one mouse click" on some controller to change the system and user radios all at once? Just wondering how this works.

I am just scanner guy, but I know the radios were reprogramed before the rebanding. I think some maybe for a few months already. This way everything should work when freqs (channels) get rebanded.

There is a Motorola guy at every site, and they all reband the same channels at the same time. Once a few channels are rebanded they put them in service.

I heard the new channel might be one of the 2 channels that were used for Data, so that would be 853.0625 or 853.5500

You wouldn't have to worry about the freqs for the scanner if you set system to control channel only, and just enter the control channel freqs. That way the scanner would scan any new freq added in the future, without you even doing anything.
Control Channel freqs are
852.0625
851.5875
852.0375
851.5375

Sorry to hear that your scanner will not be able to track these. At least you can monitor them in convetonal mode and the mobiles for closer range. I was sure that my scanners(twin UNIDEN BEARCAT 250D's) were not suppose to track the rebanded systems since they couldn't be reflashed or some such thing. But I programed the rebanded freqs. when this happended with Waukesha and it worked perfectly and also with Milwaukee County. So you can't obviously believe everything you read on the internet or some people try to start a panic telling you that you need a new scanner and some folks won't call the bluff without even trying to program it first.

Hey CrabbyMilton, look to see what freqs are used on your scanner. My bet is just the splinter freqs, and not the ones ending with zero.

I forgot that I could do that -- thanks. All reprogrammed. Everything's working great.

I also noticed the scanner seems to scan faster using control channel only, and you won't miss the first word or part of the first word if your just scanning that system.

To quote Homer Simpson..."DONG". I have them all on there but it only appears to be tracking the splinter freqs.
I guess I have to eat some crow after I get my foot out of my mouth. Oh well, at least it's tracking some of it anyway.

Nah, a lot of people think their scanner works fine by just adding the new freqs. At least you checked to see what freqs were getting used.to make sure. I really do feel bad for the people who have to buy a new scanner.
