rich. You can still listen to the OCSO on your scanner. The fire departments and EMS has went to a system called SLERS. No scanner will pick them up. You can hear some of the dispatches from the fire dept, but only the dispatch, non of the regular scanner freq's. They have it (the old system as a backup I believe) if the SLERS system goes down.

Okaloosa County FIRE/EMS now has two (2) new VHF wideband frequencies that all toneouts and initial dispatches are dispatched on. The North (Baker FD, North Okaloosa FD,Holt FD) frequency is 157.450 and the South (Ocean City FD,Fort Walton Beach FD,Destin FD) frequency is 152.0075 Once toneouts and initial dispatches accure on the South Page channel 152.0075 they switch over to SLERS which is not scanable with a police scanner the only FD you will hear on the 154.860 frequency is Florosa FD because they are volunteers and theres not enough SLERS radios. Over on the North side 157.450 once toneouts and initial dispatches accure they contact dispatch on there 154.72500 VHF frequency.

Default Crestview FD?

I have noticed that Crestview FD has been using there channel 2 (RX 154.02500 TX 159.06000 DPL 047)for all toneouts a radio traffic and have not been using there Primary channel (RX 154.96500 TX 150.80500 DPL 047). Why is that have they deprecated the old Primary channel and are using just the channel 2 as there primary as well as there TAC 1 and TAC 2 channels? Whats happening/wrong?

I know the reason! (hah even though I'm 800 miles away I have a way of finding things out).
Their channel 1 antenna took a lightning strike about a month ago, and the repeater itself was fine, but when they transmitted, it would shut off from high reflected power. They had to get a tower crew to get up and check the antenna as well as the whole 250 feet of hardline coax all the way up the antenna to find out what was wrong.

Default Help with BCT15X programming Okaloosa County

Hello everyone,
I just got the Uniden BCT15X scanner about a week ago and I am having some trouble programming this pig. I was hoping someone out there would be able to help me program this or has a freescan file with our county freqs that they would be able to send me. I was able to get FWB,SO and the FD dispatch channels programmed but thats it. I would like to beable to have the rest of the freqs that this scanner will pick up in this county.

I talked with a FD member the other night from the station up from me and he said that I wouldnt beable to hear there traffic other then there tone outs because of SLERS. I found out that there is no scanner out there that will pick this up. Well any help would be appreciated with my problem

I have one that is pretty well updated. It's customized for the Crestview Area, but it has the entire county programmed into it. You can rearrange and add things and play around with it to customize it for you. Gives you a great opportunity to REALLY play around with the program!

Also, Wise871 has a pretty good one as well. Send me a PM with your email and I will get one to you.

Default BCT996X

Ok I might be in the wrong fourm to ask this question and if I am please tell so. The question I have I was on unidens website the other night and I also seen it on scanner master and amazon that the BCT996X will scan the ESK system that florida has gone to with this SLERS. Does that mean that it will pick up the traffic then or no? I have seen people saying theres no scanner on the market yet that will pick up SLERS but when I look on here that SLERS is EDACS Networked Standard w/ESK. When I looked on theses sites it also says that the BCT996X is EDACS w/ESK compatiable. So my question is would that scanner work or not? I am thinking of getting one but just dont wanna come off that much money just yet if its not going to work for the area. I know it will work with the MARCS system that Ohio has in effect which is just the P25 system. Any feedback will be greatly appreacitaed and like I said if this is the wrong fourm to post this in I am sorry.

It will not make a difference. You cannot listen to it with a scanner, not because of it being EDACS, or ESK, but because it uses a Sitepro controller on the EDACS network. No scanner can decode the Sitepro encoding. It's barely different than a regular EDACS controller, but it's just enough that a scanner cannot decode it.

Some say it's because of the Opensky and encryption, but the SOF system does not use Opensky. It was in the initial development but was abandoned years ago. However, you still wouldn't be able to listen the the encryption, but there are MANY talkgroups on the system that are not encrypted. Most law enforcement talkgroups are encrypted though.

The only benefit you would get with the 996XT would be the P25 monitoring that Eglin AFB, and if you are in Escambia County area often. Otherwise there is no benefit to upgrading your scanner.

Gotcha. Like I said before I am new to all of this digtal scannning crap. I want my analog stuff back lol. I have heard through radio world that back home our local sheriffs department is slowly going digtal which means it wont be much longer before they make all the FD's go digtal. From what I have heard its gonna hurt alot of the FD's back up there cause all of them in the county was Volunteer and theres no grants or anything out there to help with this conversion.

Ok I am full of questions here today. Seems everyone is pretty active here and fast at responding. I asked a friend of mine that is a ham op. down the road from me and he wasnt sure. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could possiably go (radio shop) to get some info off of my UHF Motorola HT1250 radio. I was needing to get some of my freqs and tones off of it. Or if it was possiable for me to find a cable and the program I could do it myself also. Any help would be wonderful. I am in Fort Walton Beach also.

The sheriff's department has had the radios for about 4 years now, but most of them are not installed into vehicles, and the department isn't really showing any interest in converting over 100% to the system.

Most all of the fire departments, including volunteer depts, have a pretty good stock of SLERS radios. Some of the volunteer depts could use more though. I think it's kind of that way with any radio switchover though-just like what is going on "back home" where ever you're from :P

The only shop locally that does Motorola is First Communications. However, you may be able to find somebody locally that has the software and cable. You also could likely find a place online that sells the cable fairly cheap, and the software.

Default BCT15X question

Alright my fellow scanner friends. I have a very mind bogging question for everyone out there. I just learned today on my trolling of the net looking at prices of Uniden scanners and found out that my BCT15X will pick up EDACS/ESK systems. I know FL is using EDACS ESK with provoice and analog but my question is how do I program my scanner using freescan to input some of these freqs. to see if I can pick anything up at all. I dont figure it will but I was just being curious on trying it and seeing what there might be around.

Also another question I had is there any trunked systems in the area that I might beable to pick up with it.
