Is ORION going PHASE ll in the near future??
Have heard rumors?
How about FULLY ENCRYPTED also..
Would like to purchase BCD325 P2 but not
if this is to happen (ENCRYPTION FULLY)
on ORION System.
Anyone in the area have a BCD 325 P2 and
if so how does it function on the system?

For Douglas county
No full time encryption, at least not in the near future but this could change.
Phase 2 possibly in the near future depends upon funds but it will happen eventually.
I have a 563hp works great.

Washington county
Possible full time law enforcement encryption.
Read that they are upgrading their 3 sites to TDMA (phase 2)

I have no info on Pott co or OPPD

Being a Motorola based system, they can upgrade the backend to support P2 trunking - and use DDM which means if a P1 only radio logs onto a P2 talkgroup, all the P2 radios will revert back to P1.

All high tier scanners support P2 trunking, so not a big deal there.

Encryption is a per agency/per talkgroup decision, and no one will know until it happens.

As a former resident, I would be surprised if Washington County law enforcement went fulltime encrypted. There is so little activity on their law enforcement talkgroups there is (was) really not much of interest to hear for the casual listener, and with the simulcast modulation it was a bear to receive on a scanner even inside the county. When I lived there about five years ago it could be an hour between calls, and they were very good about switching to an encrypted talkgroup when anything remotely interesting occurred. Maybe they just want to get out of having to do that on a regular basis. I also think they may have switched a few years ago to dispatching some calls via mobile data terminals.

Also very surprised the county is spending the money to upgrade to TDMA, seems like a waste to me unless utilization on the simulcast is way up from a few years back.

Glad 2 finally find some members in Omaha. Hope someone can helpe out. I have a RS Pro197 and use Bute ARC 500 programing software. I program P25, ORION sites and talk groups but never hear any traffic. I can pick up conventional frequencies ok .. I can't pick up air traffic either. Couple of days ago I fired up my old RS Pro 94 which was preprogrammed and it pickrd up air/fire/ems. Any suggestions on why the PRO 197 doesn't pick up trunked traffic, Thanks. (you can p.m.if u want)

There is no way that the Orion system signal would reach Columbus
from Omaha straight line shot of a little over 80 miles way to far...
Have you tried programming in Nebr, State Patrol for the Columbus
area you should have no trouble with them.
I am not familiar with ARC-500 software..
What conventional freqs do you pick up?
I don't see why you could not pick up air traffic if you are getting
conventional freqs. again what are you trying to listen to?
Do you have an outside antenna?
I am no WIZ,but have been scanning for 40 years and the Digital
is really something for the older people.
I have a 436 and 536 Great machines once you get to know them.
Also Pro 2052 - 20 years old used only for air Great radio also,
but can have no outside antennas.

P.M. me if you like

Never say never. I was
Able to get an 800 system from about 105 miles where I use to live - with a couple of mountains in the way.

I understand I could not pick up traffic at that distance. I travel to Omaha/CB area often and like to "listen in" along the route. I used the software to program in the available current frequencies both conventional and trunked in Platte, Colfax, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Washington, Pottawatomie, etc which included EMS, Hospitals, Fire, Police, St. Patrol. I use a magnetic mounted antenna while on the road. Thanks
