• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'd like to put one of the BC966t in my new car. I'm having a difficult time though trying to find a location. These new cars aren't like the old ones where you had plenty of room and could drill holes in everything and not worry about it. I'm thinking it could go in this spot right above the radio if I could figure out how to get this box thingy out.

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated. Sorry for the gigantic pics. I overestimated the size.

Not that this is a help, but man I love the Subaru platform...but getting a radio in the car is like squeezing a dollar out of a dime! Good luck, and we expect pictures if you ever get it installed!!!

Thanks, I'm not much of an installer without making a mess. Maybe I should settle for my portable in the cup holder and call it good???

Not that you want to hear this answer (few do) but the RH-96 would fit on top of that ashtray with some double-stick tape or Velcro. That's what I'd do. Too pretty to hack up.

Thanks Jonny. That's really a good idea. I thought about that before but didn't consider the ash tray location. I don't smoke so it's not like I'm every going to use it. I'll check into that and see how it would fit....

And to extend on that, I bet that you can look on ebay or around for a replacement trim piece for the plastic piece surrounding your shifter (it looks as though there's a seam between it and the AM/FM radio), and if you do, you could take a Dremel to the 'ashtray cutout' and cut it to be the exact fit of your remote head. Then if you ever sell, just pull your original trim piece out of storage and pop it back in.

I'm just guessing that it's snap-fit - mine are on my Nissan. For the final word on that trim piece, I'd pay a visit to a good local audio installer (not best buy/etc) - they're very experienced with removing/preserving trim pieces, so they could tell you what your options are.

Go to scoobymods.com or nasioc.com ... I know NASIOC has a definite section on electronics installs. It's mainly for stereos and/or carputers, but some of us have gotten help with our scanners before from there.
