1065 antenna

Hello:

I just bought my first desktop scanner, a 1065. I use it to listen to local police, fire, forest service, and a few forest service air craft channels from the local tanker base. I was hoping that someone would be able to recommend a general purpose roof mounted antenna that would give me more range than the stock one. I would appreciate any help i can get. I've been researching them but not really sure what I actually need.

What's important in selecting the best antenna is the band or bands you intend to monitor.

I use it to listen to local police, fire, forest service, and a few forest service air craft channels from the local tanker base.

These services can be scattered across several bands. VHF Low, VHF High, UHF or 800 Mhz.

In general, a Discone will have the widest range of frequencies it's tuned for, but if you plan to monitor one particular band, a more specifically-designed antenna will help.
