OKay I am here in the Metro Detroit area over here and Michigan and I am trying to tune in, with my AM only receiver and don't have a battery for my Ten Tech BFO SSB tuner. How strong is the signal up there?

I listen to 11175 all day long here in Dallas. I think all the unrest in Libya and the rest of the middle east and other spots has put the military on a bit more of an alert than normal. Thus the increase in coded messages sent via GHFS

8.992 MHz and 11.175 MHz USB are coming in very strong all day the conditions here are very good, I have very little back ground noise tonight.

GHFS?

And shoot with the amount of RF that my un-grounded computer and computer monitor are giving off upstairs in my room combined with the fact that I am only using the stock telescopic antenna inside my room it is hard to hear anything. So how strong is the signal for bother of you?

Okay got my SSB oscillator now, any of the two active I heard something on 8.992 for a quick sec but before I could demodulate it it was gone.

you will often find 8992 more active at night, but with usually the same strong signals.

GHFS...Global High Frequency Service

Pretty much just an Air Force thing now, but you will hear other services call in if need be. Just depends what is going on. It is where my SW receiver sits most of the time...

If you use 11175 as a mid-point, you will find the higher freq. stronger in daylight hours, and the lower freq better at nite.

Sounds like you have been hitting into the aviation frequencies lately :)

Check this out: USAF High Frequency Global Communications System - The RadioReference Wiki

SKYKING means that a extremely highly encrypted message is sent in those alphanumberic messages. Normal EAMS are still highly encrypted, but not near the priority of SKYKING messages. WIth all the crap in Libya, there has been quite a bit of SKYKING's lately, and sometimes many different messages at a time.

What kind of receivers are you guys using to intercept these stations? I've been trying to here something but I'm thinking my radio is too small. I have a Grundig G6 Aviator with just the whip antenna...are my chances slim to none to catch utility signals in SW Ontario?
