i heard last night (sunday) around 10:00PM a guy on a high speed chase with police going southbound on 405 from kirkland. the office in pursiut said he was going a speed of 120+ mph (no joke). they got the chopper out and everything, and i went driving out to see anything, but didn't (i live around the area). but can you imagine 120 in this weather? the thing is, my scanner ran out of batteries before the chase was over and i never found out how it ended. his last location was driving through belleuve. it was on the NE king county police trunk. he must have wrecked or the cops called off the pursiut. anyone know?

Let me get this straight, You were listening to a high speed chase in your area with speeds in excess of 120 MPH in bad weather at night......................................AND THEN YOU WENT OUT DRIVING TO SEE IF YOU COULD SEE ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!?!?!? Next time stay home and out of the way.

it's alright. the news would pay a lot for video of this high speed chase, espesually if there was a fatal crash (which was likely). that's the whole reason i have a scanner: video tape crazy stuff. i wasn't in any one's way. relax. i stay my distance when ever i do this. thanx for your concern tho

RE: Chase over 120 MPH

I heard the outcome, it was called off by S.O., WAY to Dangerous. and come on man are you for real? you should listen to yourself. you sound so immature. Just stay home and listen. This hobby does not need people like yourself giving it a bad name. There are enough of those "wann-be" cops out there. Your not impressing anyone boss!

i thought that was what happened. thanx for telling me.

y r u guys so up tite? it's not like i'm a vigilante, i just am an ameture photographer. i'm not breaking any laws and i don't get in anyone's way. for example: i just drove on 405 a bit to see if the chase could come by me or spot the helicopter in the sky. just stop attacking me. i'm sick of it. this forum is to have fun with others that like listening to scanners. very few people i know personally think listening to scanners is fun, so when i found this forum one day, i thought it would be tite to talk with others that share my hobby. but all i get is a bunch of critism from people like you. i don't need this.

i don't have to prove or justify anything to you people, but i will say, what's the big deal about driving? am i any different from a person that was driving home from work that night? no i wasn't.

you know: the internet is great in all becuase you get to learn things and share ideas and stuff, but there are so many discouraging people on the internet. just remember your talking to real people.

i didn't post this so i could have you people get mad at me because i wanted to see a high speed chase. i'm not trying to "impress" anyone, all i said originally was that i went out driving to see if i could see anything. i didn't mean for this forum to be all about how i shouldn't have the right go out and watch police activity. i guess i wasted my time: both posting this and trying to be active on this scanner forum. i'll find another.

thanx

RE: Chase and how you feel

Ok well you basically sealed your own fate my friend when you came on here talking about how you listen to your scanner and then go out and try to video/photo the action you hear. We didn't bring that up YOU did. Its kinda frowned upon in the general scanning community from what I have heard, read and seen over the years. Yes Media do something similar but that is their JOB. They are professionals. and as far as your remark about you being the same as anyone driving home that evening. YES you are different, as you heard action on your scanner and purposely went LOOKING fro the action you heard. Those others out there are minding thier own business, having no clue as to whats up. Now, as far as you finding another scanning board or group to join, thats your business but I need to say that any and all groups or boards I have been on REALLY REALLY look down on stringers or people who scan to gain wehter it be thru photography or video to then try to sell to media. I think its great your into scanning, your 21 i think you said in another post. Thats great! its a fun and very exciting hobby at times. But you are going about it in the wrong way. No need to get upset and run off, just realize that many in the hobby do not respect the nature in which you scan. Your not the average scanner owner.

Bye, I hope you find one that encourages scanner listeners to place themselves into the situations that they are monitoring. Sorry to have offended you but I guess my atitude has been influenced by some of the carnage and suffering I have dealt with over the past 27 years working in the Fire/Rescue service. Those really cool wrecks you are hoping for destroy peoples lives. By the way, "I just drove on 405 a bit to see if the chase could come by me" equates to getting in the way if you were aware of the oncomming chase.

"120 mph from police in this waether?!!!?!?!"

At the risk of sounding like I'm piling on.. the tone of the thread title itself tells me a bit about the motivations of AuntBee. It appears there is some blaming of the police for driving fast in bad weather?

"...the news would pay a lot for video of this high speed chase, espesually if there was a fatal crash..."

The statement that some media outlet would pay money of the resulting video? Just what were you hoping to capture on video that any news organization would pay for? Police pursuit videos are a dime a dozen anymore, especially when so many are captured FIRST HAND on dashcams.

FIRST: no, i'm not blaming police; i'm saying the guy running driving away from police is crazy.

SECOND: i've sold my footage to local news stations before.

yah, i guess i just won't talk about stuff i get on tape. i still think i did have a right to get upset, because i ment no harm to any of you people and didn't even mean to talk about me video taping police stuff, but everyone turned it into a huge forum about what a sin i commited my just driving on the freeway to see a chase. i was in the slow lane, going about 50 mph. compared to everyone else speeding in those road conditions, i think i was being very responsible. and by the way, i'm majoring in visual communications/journalism, so i do consider myself a small part of the media community. i consider your (this) comment constructive critism, unlike the other ones. thanx for the info. i think i'll still chat on this forum periodically

what?????? no. prove it.

i signed away the rights of certian video i have shot to king 5 news (NBC). they gave me $50 in return. this is typically what the media does when they want to show someone's homevideo/photo on their channel or in their newspaper. can you explain how this is illigal?

The substance of the Communications Act of 1934 is you may not repeat what you have heard on the radio (your scanner) to a third party (a person other than the sender and receiver of the message) AND you can not use what you hear for your own personal gain. (the money you received for your video).
While that law may not be strictly enforced, it is still in effect.
