I live in Northeast Pennsylvania and I am hearing unusual comms on 123.525. I have this frequency listed as an Air Refueling frequency, although that may not be 100 percent accurate. I am hearing a guy making stupid sounds, making rambling stupid comments, and basically challenging another unknown/unheard party. It sounds like the guy is just causing trouble on the frequency, probably not supposed to be transmitting on the frequency. Can someone tell me what they have that frequency listed as and if anyone from NEPA can program it in and let me know what they hear.

It's probably not an Air refueling freq since it's in the civil air band. Probably some bozo just playing around. I would guess it could be used more as civil air to air.

Wow, I know a while ago I used to hear flight instructors for a certain FBO around here swearing on 122.2mhz while out in the practice zone with students. They were talking to their other buddy instructors like it was a party line. Hopefully they got canned. I wouldn't fly with them. Plus they have junk rental planes. I had one while out practicing and the stall warning didn't even work and the flap actuator was like something I never seen. Last time I rent there. Instructors at other FBO's call their planes "flying coffins". I could go on with horror stories of this company, but this is not the forum for it.

From what I understand anything from 123.4000-123.6000 is used for flight schools and air-to-air communications so anything goes pretty much. 122.200 was always labelled as"air-watch" I haven't the slightest clue what that means.

You're correct on the refueling. I often hear AR ops on that freq by Navy KC-130 tankers from Patuxent NAS. They're heard refueling a variety of aircraft types since there are so many working from Pax. That freq is often busy with Patuxent aircraft maneuvering to the AR areas too. Everything I've heard on that freq over the years has been strictly refueling and strictly from Patuxent. I have no idea how it may be used in other parts of the country.

Other freqs in that range that are busy here in the Baltimore-Washington area are Northrup Grumman test flights on 123.2 and 123.225 and, just in the past week, they've added 122.75 to their freq list. Those aircraft are based at BWI airport and often work with Navy aircraft from Patuxent as they test various instrumentation aboard their aircraft. They've also been heard out in offshore area W-105 working with Giant Killer and a B-52 and in W-386 refueling from Air Force tankers from Andrews. The Northrup Grumman aircraft are British BAC 1-11 types. You will hear them using registrations N161NG, N162W and N164W. They also occasionally use DRAGON for a callsign such as, "DRAGON Base, this is DRAGON 1."

That freq. is used by flight service stations. Flight watch is basically for pilots to give PIREPS (pilot reports of actual weather and flight conditions, it allows the FAA and NOAA to compare real weather to forecast weather, and to pass this info on to other pilots so they can avoid icing, turbulence etc.). it is typically on 122.0 but varies. Yes, any cursing on 122.2 would definitely have a wide audience.

I'm in the middle of adding new freqs and realigning everything. As soon as I'm done, I'll be posting them all again to start a new MD MilAir thread (Number III) sometime in the near future - probably no more than a week or 10 days away. I'll probably do it the same way I did for Number II, over the course of several messages at the beginning of the new thread.
