In London I was listening to some radio chatter this morning on 142.770 at the time I heard Mt Brydges being mentioned something to do with pulling up to a car on the side of the road? I went out for a couple of hours, turned the radio back on when I got home and heard some more talking , not catching enough of the conversation to know who it is.
I am thinking that maybe Strathroy Police are having comm. problems and they are using 142.770? Anyone else hearing anything?

Haven't heard anything out of the ordinary here.... I will keep an ear for it though. Perhaps it was one of the joint op's traffic blitz's or something... The other departments usually hang out on P-COM when they do those.

After I posted the above message, I didn't hear another peep from them. It had me wondering though, do all dept. still have the ability to use 142.770 being as London, OPP, Strathroy all have different types of radios. I have never seen a VHF antenna on a London cruiser, I have yet to see a Strathroy police vehicle, while OPP does have the VHF antenna, just a thought.

LPS use talkgroup 147 on the EDACS system to patch to Provincial Common (same as how they patch to the OPP or UWO). This is pretty standard for any agency that isn't natively on VHF to begin with. Since agencies like OPP, Strathroy, St Thomas etc are all on VHF to begin with, it's just a matter of flipping to another channel for them. However I have noticed that quite often the OPP (at least around here) won't do this. Typically the dispatcher will just patch the OPS talkgroup being used to P-COM at his/her end. Likely easier than having several officers involved in an incident poking around in their radio trying to find the proper channel. Plus I'm not sure if their VR would still work if the car radio is on Provincial Common.

Most times Provincial Common 142.770 is patched. It can be heard on the patched tg, the same transmissions. OPP have the fleetnet talkgroup simulcast on 142.770 as well as the channel of the other local police agency. That way the OPP officer can remain on their talkgroup and not worry about switching their radios over, The patch is created from the Comm Center. Especially during a police pursuit on Ontario provincial highways, it gives ease to the officer to concentrate on the vehicle in pursuit, and have the comm center deal with the patching of communications without the officer worrying about switching to all these different channels on the radio.

Interesting replies, thanks for clearing that up, I think, lol. So I think what you are saying is that unless I have a radio capable of monitoring Apco 25, I might not hear a call on the provincial common in all cases?

All I have is my old Pro 2006, I have kind of lost interest in radio monitoring since everthing went digital, so that is what I am dealing with.

I did hear a car call London comms center a couple of weeks ago on 142.770, the car was coming from the Police College. I guess they got stuck in the snow and they called Londong for a wrecker. I guess all PD's must monitor 142.770. Again thanks for the info.
