There is definitely some units still out there. I was able to round up 8 of them after calling about 40 stores just today. You have to do the footwork, RS employees most likely won't as they have other things to do that will make them more money.

I can tell you this, there aren't any more in PA!

If anyone runs across an extra one they would like to unload, I'd like to have one but there are none within a hundred miles of me.

PM me.

Got the USB Cable, too, at half price! Woo-hoo!

See my earlier posting. You have got to try searching many different zip codes in different parts of the country to find the 20-136. One of the other posters above found 8! Then call the store showing stock and ask them to physically locate the item, check if it is really in the box, and if all the parts and documents are there. Then ask if they will do Ship-to-Store. Be prepared and ask your local manager if they do Ship-to-Store. Then give the non-local store manager the store number and name of your local manager. Get his/her name and store number (location, too), and let them know your local manager will be calling in the request. Then get back to your local store manager with the information and ask them to call in the request. That's all I had to do! WHEW!

The beauty part is, this costs you nothing (provided you have a Free National Calling phone plan) until you actually inspect the product and purchase it at your local store! Ain't the RatShack great?

I got the -135 handheld also. Noticing that some of the scanners qualified for a half price discount on the USB programming cable (20-546) I had the cleark ring one up with my two scanners, even though they were not listed as qualifiying on the website.

Bingo! Price came up $17.49 instead of $34.99! SOLD! Don't know if it was the -135 or the -136 that did the trick, maybe both/either. Sorry. Worth checking if you buy a scanner and need/want the cable.

B-bye, or is it....B-buy?

What does it say on the receipt? The cable discount?

The guy at the local store tells me I have to use their website to order the unit. So much for customer service.

I am going on a vacation to any area that has a couple of these radios. Thinking about buying one.

Yeah it definitely takes some hunting down skills. I called my local Radio Shack and after the first guy put me on hold and hung up on me I called back and told the lady who picked up not to put me on hold. She was very helpful and found one at a different store down state.

Luckily it was by my dad's house so when I stopped by for a visit we went over there to pick it up. The Employee that I told my name and the product that was being held for me just started randomly picking up things on the counter asking if that was the item I was looking for. I told him that it was probably in the back with my name on it. He went in the back brought it back and told me that it was "Obsolete", and that I should buy a digital scanner. . . I sighed and told him not to worry about it and all I wanted to do was buy the scanner.( I already own a Pro-106 ).

He also tried selling me some kind of 3 or 4 dollar insurance or replacement something rather on it. I said " The radio is only $17 , no thank you. If there is something wrong with it then I will bring it back and return it"

The guy had no idea what he was doing and was treating me like I had no idea what he was doing. Jeeze I love how people who have no idea what they are doing get hired. I know more about the products then the people selling them. Sigh I should apply for a job at radioshack. < ( Didn't even feel like they were worthy enough to be capitalized right there. )

Although I am very happy with the RadioShack ***Cough*** Uniden radio with the "RadioShack" logo on it. For a great price it is a great radio scanner + Alarm Clock + FM Broadcast Reciever + Weather Radio.

I picked one up the other day, and am on a hunt for more to monitor certain things that don't need trunking or digital. For $15 its a great weather radio! The RS I went to was one of the nicest I have been to in recent years, the salesman even made sure I knew it was not capable of receiving the local public safety systems! Of course I knew that, and explained my intent...

Cheers

I found one in Midvale Utah, last one in his inventory. Not even a display unit, never been out of the box.

I just called my local store which website says is in stock, guy "checked" , I heard a "wow", then he replied that they had none in stock. Not sure what the distance is that internet checks by zip code, but was not able to find any in St. Louis area besides the one.

Pro-136: Is This Right???

Just picked up a PRO-136 this afternoon after reading this. I looked up the info on this scanner online first (always a good idea when dealing with the shack) and located ONE in the county just south of me. Since I was down there today anyway I decided to stop in and see if they still had it. This is where things get interesting, not to mention downright EXCITING.

The sales guy walks back to their scanner display and say's "yeah, we've only got ONE left". I told him I'd take it and he reaches down and begins putting a **Pro-197** in the box when he say's, "Wow ,this is a GREAT deal because this thing is normally $349!". At that point I realized what was happening so I just stood there to see how far this little event was going to play out before they realized this was not only the WRONG scanner, but wasn't even CLOSE to being in the same class as a Pro-197.

So the other guy working there walks up and asks the first guy "are you SURE this is right?", and the first guy simply states, "yeah, that's what the system say's". The other guy say's "well, if that's how much it say's it is then lets ring the man up" :D

At this point I'm really grappling with my conscience for obvious reasons but I went ahead and spoke up and told the guy what he was about to do. But I have to admit it would have been quite a thrill to have bought a brand new Pro-197 for only $15

Now I realize some of you may be calling me a dumb *whatever* but I happen to know HOW the shack works when it comes to these kinds of things. Radio Shack would have simply taken the difference out of this poor kids paycheck, which would have been several of them. But it was a GLORIOUS feeling for a short time when I saw what was shaping up to be the best deal anyone would have EVER gotten on a Pro-197!!

So the guy thanked me profusely and packaged the REAL Pro-136 and I was on my way home.

I've been using the 136 a few hours now and I have to say it ain't a bad scanner. In fact, it receives pretty darn well. I listen to a lot of aircraft and reception in this range is really quite good on this little scanner. I would have never paid the regular price for it - In fact, I would have never even considered buying this model to start with. However, at only fifteen bucks it was a rather good deal and I'm a little shocked it works as well as it does

Very Good AM Aircraft Recption

Aircraft AM receive on the PRO-136 is like nothing else out there.

I was quite surprised how good the aircraft band is with this scanner. If nothing else, the am aircraft reception makes it well worth the $15 :D

Personally, I am happy to see that there are still honest people out there like you. That poor guy would surely have lost a good chunk of his pay (and maybe his job) over a mistake that big. Good for you. Enjoy your Pro-136. I love mine!

Nice to see there is another do the right thing sucker out there like me! If you are like me, you never would have enjoyed that scanner anyway.

I actually applied to work at Radio Shack recently just for giggles. I have a solid background in CB radio, I am a new ham, I have a good background in scanning, and I have a pretty good knowledge of electronics and electrical schematics, and a sales background. The Radio Shack application seems to more interested in how well you can sell, and there is a typical sales job personality profile test. Needless to say, someone with knowledge such as I did not even receive a call from RS. I guess they really want to just hire young kids that only know about cell phones or something.

At least some of the guys know enough about the scanners to know they may be obsolete.

BTW-Anyone upgrade their cell phones when getting one of these scanners?

I did some searching around me today, and found 4 stores that the website claimed there were 136's in stock, but all 4 denied having any. :(

One store I called was an Ace Hardware and Radio Shack together. Weird, never heard of that before.

Typical Shack Issue

I did some searching around me today, and found 4 stores that the website claimed there were 136's in stock, but all 4 denied having any. :(

That's happened to me so many times over the years it isn't funny. The really aggravating part is I always call before making the trip to my local shack, just to alleviate getting to the store only to find out they're out of stock on whatever it is I want to buy.

I lived in Tallahassee for many years and for some reason that area seemed to have the worst problem getting their POS system to match physical inventory. Basically I'd call beforehand and they'd tell me they had the item in question. I'd drive to the store only to be told "sorry, we don't have it". In fact, it started happening so often to me I had to ask the salesperson on the phone if they would physically check to verify it was in fact in the store. On numerous occasions I was put on hold and a few moments later they came back indicating they did have it in their store. Upon arriving I found they actually did NOT have it and apparently the salesperson didn't really check their inventory, but merely put me on hold a few moments just to *satisfy* some overly cautious customer. Still makes me mad even today to think about the game they would play just because they didn't want to look on the shelf or walk to the back room to really check their stock. But YOU'RE the bad guy when you get angry at them for NOT doing their job

Once or twice is one thing but this happened so many times I finally filed a complaint with the regional manager. Apparently that went nowhere because it continued to be a regular event during my remaining years in that city.

Things happen when it comes to inventory. But the shack seems to have an even bigger problem because this happens WAY too often in certain areas

Oh I didn't actually go to those stores, I definitely called first.

One of the guys had actually had several calls on it, so he knew exactly what I was talking about.

Now you see what I mean about not being able to know the difference between the items that they are selling. And I was reading a post by someone else about their radio background and applying for a position. And to that person I say I am not surprised but still disappointed.

As for being honest and speaking up , good to be honest. I am trying to figure out what I would have done in that situation . . . . . . . . . :D
