172.2125 Roanoke Area

On a recent trip to Roanoke I logged 172.2125 in P25 mode. I had previously logged a short conversation on this frequency in P25 that sounded like a unit requesting a supervisor, which then switched to encryption.

Any ideas on this one?

162.6625 - Either Analog voice or an image
169.7875 151.4 - Voice Traffic

162.6625 mhz.....VA Hospital Salem Paging (Not P25)
162.9875 mhz......FBI

168.1125 mhz.....Joint Government/Civilian Law Enforcement...probably LE-4, NAC 68F
169.7875 mhz.... Army Engineers...151.4 pl frequently is used by the Army ?
169.1250 mhz.....VA Hospital Salem? or Interior Department user
168.2000 mhz.....Jefferson National Forest/George Washington National Forest NIFC TAC 2
169.4250 mhz.....IFLOWS area mountaintop rain gauge data transmission (Not P25)

Good catches for a mobile in the area. Reported P25 activity the western and southwestern part of the state is not much. Unfortunately the best times for monitoring most 162-174 mhz. P25 activity anywhere is M-F from 0700-1800 when most monitors would be working or doing something else.

VA Salem

Hey Jake,
The Salem V.A has 3 repeaters, not any of those listed, I'll explain in P/M. If heard, USMS is usually 84xx units. FBI has a few repeaters this direction, you may have heard Poor Mountain in Roanoke. Apple Orchard (Bedford County) had one a few years ago, however it may have moved, and Walkers Mountain near Wythe County. V.A. paging is not on 162.6625 its on 167.8625.
