This is listed at many airports including locally for me- MBS

All that is picked up is an occasional data burst. Is it used for RVR, ATIS etc?
Been wondering for some time. Thanks.

City of Chicago has run low power data squitters on this and neighboring freqs for years at O'Hare. I've never been able to pin down exactly what they are used for. I've been told SCADA, lighting control, remote alarms, etc.

Hi all,

The closest thing I came to airports is this from the FCC database.

JFK ARPRT POLICE EMERGENCY GARAGE
NEW YORK, NY QUEENS County

The only other user in the area is this in Monmouth County.

State of New Jersey - DEP
Water Supply Authority
c/o of NJ Forest Fire Service

I guess it all comes down to location. Ronald you might want to run the search engine http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchAdvanced.jsp and see what you come up with.

The Frequency 173.2375 used to be used by the USAF Academy Fire Department, CO for their needs... Since they are now part of another system they no longer use it. I believe that several other USAF fire departments use this frequency as well.... Of course it has been 20 years since I have been in the military......
