I am wondering what Software program is the best for the RS Pro-106 and what cable I need to connect it to my computer.

Most Pro 106 users I see use the WIN500

And the cable I forget which it is but you can get it at RS for about $30

Since most, if not all, of the scanner software have 30 day free trials (of fully functional versions), the "Best" would be best determined by you by trying them all and seeing which one works best for you. I may like one layout and that may be the most confusing for you, while you just love another way of doing things that I may just hate. That's why they use the "Try before you buy" model. The cable is from Radio Shack, but this may not be in stock based on reports http://forums.radioreference.com/ra...canner-programming-cable-gone-rs-website.html. It appears that the old cable, # 20-047, is being replaced with a new one, # 200-0546, so you may want to check both numbers if you go with the Radio Shack version.

You could also use the GRE cable, # 30-3290, since they make the one for Radio Shack, you shouldn't have any issues with it. This is available from Scanner Master here GRE USB Cable, GRE Online https://www.greamerica.com/shop/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?pg=prod&ref=scan006, or many other outlets.

better asked,and answered is what are you
looking to do with the software?

Just program,
or do you want to prog and control the 106 also?

win 500 is fantastic,but i ffind arc500 to be easier to cut n paste
freqs'

you can also do some programming with ID Tracker,
and unitrunker too i believe,,wich are both FrEE!


youve got some options out there,so test drive em all!

I've been playing with Scan ID. It doesn't do any programming but it does do PC control of the scanner and monitors and logs TGIDs. Also, will record scanner audio with a stereo cable.
Nice little free package.
