2003 Ford Escape

Here is my 2003 Ford Escape. Installed in there is a Uniden BCD996T, Kenwood TM271A. Antennas are 2 Larsen, 1 Tram for the Sirius radio, and one glass mount for another scanner that I am going to buy.

Changed my setup again. Installed the Kenwood TM217-A back in my vehicle. I used the extra cubby above the Motorola and cut it bigger for the Kenwood. Here are some pictures:

What did you tap into for your power? I will be wiring up a 2003 Ford Explorer and will be on a timeline. Hoping to find some locations for power. Preferrably ignition switched but either way will work.

Rule #1: Don't rush electrical wiring. If you don't have time to wire it up correctly, then don't do it. Wait until you have adequate time to do it right.

You can pull power from an unused fuse slot to power a low draw device such as a scanner, but you should not "tap" into factory wiring to power a two-way radio.

It is ALWAYS best to run a dedicated power line directly off the battery. It only takes a few extra minutes to run a dedicated power line.

If ignition switch power control is desired, then use an ACC or IGN line as a relay trigger only. The easiest place to find an ignition switched line is at the fuse box (look in the owners manual to find ignition controlled accessory circuits). Fuse taps make connection easy.

I ran most of the power from the battery and through the firewall. I protected those lines with fuses and even have a 100 amp circuit breaker on some of the power lines. As far the ingition I ran a couple of wires from the fuse box.
