To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just bought a 2005 F350 yesterday. I have 2 or possibly 3 radios that I want to install, just need some ideas on how to install them. I'm thinking probably a floor console of some sort, but I haven't really had a chance to look and see what's out there yet.

Anyone have any ideas or pics of an install in a Super Duty?

I have a 2003 f250 and use it every day. I have a Gamber johnson mcs-13 console in that truck only because I have a toughbook and 3 radios, a siren and a switchbox to work with. It is a no drill system that uses the front seat bolts to attach itself. This is the unit I have:

You can browse their selection and make your own system to fit your needs: Home | Gamber-Johnson, LLC

If I didn't have the laptop I would go with the havis options below:

C-VS-0309-F250_A_1-0711_600.jpg

C-VS-0309-F250_A_1-072ZZ-W_600.jpg

here's the product link:

Havis: C-VS-0309-F250: Console, Vehicle specific, 12" Total mounting space, Underdash mounting, Housing complete, Ford F-250, 99-07

Hope this helps...

Thanks, I will check those out. The one you have is pretty much exactly what I am looking for, except I don't need a computer mount.

I did find a decent looking Troy console on eBay but I think it's a little too big to fit in the space between the seat and the dash.

I like the Havis consoles. We use them for all of our public safety installs and they work great. I even have an 8" model in my F-150 work truck.

Does your truck have the center seat in it? Gamber johnson told me that it would not fit my truck because of the center seat but after looking in to all their drawings I only had to notch a slight little bit of steel on the mounting legs of the gamber johnson unit and it all fit. Left all the ford mounts stock.

The 13" unit fills the space from the center seat right to the dash perfect. I'll try and get some pics here for you of my actual install.

Yes, I do have the center seat. I have the 40/20/40 split seat. Driver and passenger seats move but the center section is stationary and folds down into an armrest/console.

Well, I needed a temporary mounting solution since we had severe weather expected yesterday and I wanted to be ready for storm spotting. I found this cheap plastic console at Walmart for 10 bucks. I modified it with a utility knife to fit my FT-2800. It turned out much better than I was expecting. It has plenty of room for a couple more radios in it so I may just make it permanent. Also a pic of my antenna mounting.

How did you get power in and coax out of your truck? Do you have a Supercab?

Yes, I do have a Supercab.

Ford actually made this really easy. First, there are several unused circuits in the fuse block that have power, so pulling power from one of those is really easy. They also put in a group of 4 wires that run from under the hood to the inside of the truck. This means no drilling holes or fishing wires through the firewall.

As far as running the coax goes, there are rubber grommets in the rear of the cab that make that easy too.

As an option, the Superduty can have aux power installed with 4 switches on the dash (2 low amp, 2 high amp). Easy to tie into.

The G/J are nice and fit well into a F250, but there is nothing wrong with your cheap Walmart console either. Nice job!

You can see them in tbrownell's picture (pulled from the dash and mounted in console). I believe it is a factory option. A call to Ford would clarify...

In the picture of the interior of your truck you can see your factory brake controller it fits just to the left of that. They are called Upfitter Switches, in an older Superduty F250 I have we had one mounted so we could hook up various lights. Switches #5C3Z-13D730-AAA and wiring harness 5C3Z-14A303-AA.

I am sending along a PM

i have an 06 350 and will be building my own box to fit in the floor on the trans hump. the box im making will house a scanner and a cobra cb. this truck is very limited on where to mount things. i did see the mounts that were pictured above but after looking at the price and also the one done away with the cup holders which i wanted to keep. i will be staining to match the wood grain interier of the truck. it also will not be in the way of the switches or the glovebox under the switches.

just thowing the idea out there to you.
