*UPDATE* I was able to get the center armrest back to it's original mounting location (the zip screws were just too sloppy of a fit). I had to remove the fold out portion of the bottom of the armrest (it's not easy, but do-able). There's plenty of space now for the console, and I still have an armrest. I also have a large hollow spot under the armrest, so I'll probably use that space for some home-made cup holders and maybe a coin holder (I'm sure my better half will use the space for her purse storage location as well, haha). Additionally, the antennas came in, so expect new pictures soon!!

***updated Pictures***

Well, I was just going to edit my original post, but it won't let me...so without further delay, here are the pictures of the final install:

Picture007.jpg

(From left to right: 800MHz Phantom, VHF whip, UHF Phantom...trunk lip mounts work great since everything is inner-city)
Picture013.jpg

A great shot of what you'll need to do to remove the center console. Remove 4 lag bolts, remove the forward-folding portion of the armrest (it takes some work but DOES come apart, remount and viola! You still have a nice armrest and the plastic tray still fits over the lag bolts!)
Picture015.jpg

Antennas run through this splitloom...wires are very well protected under the seat
Picture017.jpg

I ran out of splitloom, so I used this large vacuum hose as a temporary protector until I can get some more ordered. The speaker literally clipped onto the screws under the ashtray for a no-holes mount!
Picture021.jpg

LED lightbar mounted between the retainer clips for the sun-visors...again, another no-holes mount!
Picture025.jpg

LED lightbar mounted rear (currently in a 'traffic advisor' type style from right to left)
Picture027.jpg

This is what I'm scanning! (Top to bottom: Pro-2096, Kenwood TK760g VHF, Kenwood TK860g UHF. Switches at the top control lighting)

I know someone asked to see the lightbar in action, here's a good example: http://12.152.68.2/video/911EP/LS12.htm

Thanks for looking!

Very nice install. I'm looking for inspiration for a Crown Vic install, and I think I've found it. Like to see the antenna's!

That's good to hear! Drop me a PM if you have any specific questions, my previous car was a CV.

Well, I know that antennas mounted directly to the vehicle will always receive better than antennas on a lip mount...With that in mind, my lip-mount antennas work surprisingly well. I can notice a slight difference (a little less range on the farthest signals). I'm still hearing everything I heard before with my car-mounted antennas, just a slight bit of static now (due to range). I still suggest to anyone who is looking for maximum range to install the antenna directly to the car, but my setup is good for me because I don't need to range, and it helps with re-sale value (not that resale value matters that much with a Taurus, LOL). Oh yea, and White Birch Lodge is in my district, it's really nice there in the summer!

I drilled thru the roof, but I own the vehicle too. But that does look good, clean and professional. and if its working for you then thats what matters. Michigan won't let fire in their POV run red? anyways back to thread!

The red light rule in our state is dependent on each department's Chief. Since most of our members live within 3 minutes or less of the station, the Chief has elected to only allow command staff to run red lighting on POVs...it's a sensible choice. Thanks for the kudos!

NCarpenter, thanks for the update on the install. It looks excellent - professionally done! I like the antenna set up also - you have done a great job all around that you can be very proud of

To start, I apologize for the low-rez pictures, this is from my camera phone. Until I get everything 100% installed, I figured I would tease with some 'in-progress' pictures first. This is a 2006 Ford Taurus SE (base model). I recently purchased this after driving a Crown-Vic P/I model sedan. I vowed to attempt a much better job with the install than what I had with the CV. The console is a Jotto Desk standard 9" model.
The stack configuration is as follows:
2 lighted switches for control of front and rear lighting on vehicle.
1 RadioShack Pro-2096 digital scanner
1 Kenwood TK-760g VHF mobile
1 Kenwood TK-860g UHF mobile

The switches will eventually be replaced with black illuminated switches from Carling. The other two switch holes will be covered with blanks. The switches control lighting to the front and rear of the vehicle. There are currently two 911EP LS12 mini-lightbars mounted at the front and rear in amber. I will later be adding LED hide-away modules to the front turn marker lens housings and the rear reverse light housings.

The console was too large to fit with the armrest bolted down. I ended up removing the center armrest (it was rather simple, just pop the coin tray out to gain access to the bolts, and the entire armrest will come up) and moving it back about 4". I then secured both the armrest and the console with metal zip screws. I also placed a piece of foam between the console and the front dash where they made contact to prevent excessive rubbing. Wiring comes direct from the fuse panel, where I used fuse-taps for each radio (except the lighting, all on one fuse due to the low wattage of the application...fuse taps replace the original fuse and also adds another fuse solely for the radio). Radios are on an accessory fuse while the lighting is on an 'always-hot' fuse. Antennas have not yet arrived, but there will be a standard VHF whip, a phantom UHF and 800MHz antenna installed on the trunk.

DISCLAIMER: I use amber lights for my duties on fire department. I conduct building inspections, and one of my job functions is to inspect fire hydrants nearest the building I am inspecting to ensure water flow and pressure. I did not equip with red lights since I live in town and do not respond directly to the fireground with my vehicle, amber lighting is primarily for traffic safety.

(My friend has dubbed me "the evil technician" because of the last picture with the red-eye, lol)

I will post higher res pictures when I get my camera back, and when the project is finished. Enjoy!

What console did you use? I have a 2002 taurus and interior lay out is the same was gonna do this for my set up. Kenwood tm261 rci2950dx yaseu rt7900r

The equipment console is a Jotto Desk Standard 9" Short-Stack, model #425-6010. It appears to be MSRP at $168 at the moment...

You're going to have to remove the fold-out cup-holders between the seats to get it to fit. Good luck!
