Thanks for chiming in, WX4EMT. Got a question for you... I'm going to have to replace the factory manual folding mirrors with power folders. I prefer the basic black plastic but the power folders only come with chrome or paint-to-match outer caps. I've thought about spraying black bedliner on them. What do you think?

Chrome on a PPV / SSV... oh my.. probably not..

Bedliner mirror covers have their merit because the bugs will be easier to hose off but if I could market a product to solve that problem it would be a standard paint to match the truck mirror cover but it would be coated with PTFE (teflon).

Meanwhile back in my own little universe where reality is dictated by money, plain old satin black Krylon would have to do and would probably look just fine.

Retractable mirrors...... hummmmm maybe I'm just a little jealous.

So you just removed the chrome caps and didn't paint whatever was behind them? Got a pic?

I bought the paint to match caps, but I didnt paint them. They are matte black and don't have a perfectly smooth finish - the exact thing I was looking for.

If you haven't yet ordered, I'd highly recommend ordering the console delete, which is the standard configuration (9N5), front bucket seats and nothing in the center... no center console, no center seat. You'll have a lot more room to do what you want... I have two Tahoes, a 2001 and a 2012, both with nothing in the center... had to take either the console of the center seat on the 12 as it is a civilian model, but I took out the center seat and have built in a platform for radio, cupholder, stuff like that. I find the console too confining.

Get the luggage rack delete too, truck looks cleaner without it.

Note that the PPV is a 2WD vehicle, if you want 4WD you need to order the 5W4 Special Service Vehicle, should be around $40,000.

See this site for more info. You may wish to consider the backup camera too if you can get it, the outward visibility to the rear is very poor... the pillars are quite thick and the liftgate glass is not "tall" enough to be able to see well out the rear of the vehicle.

Hope you enjoy it - I've been a bit disappointed with mine so far, lots of little things about it that bother me. The older body style was really a better vehicle!

DO NOT ORDER THE 9N5. When you do that, the truck is built with the console and when it goes across the street to the upfitter (Kerr) they will then remove it for you (and charge you). If you leave it in, your truck will come with it. When you do your install and remove the front seats, the console will just lift out. You will save money, have the console if you want it or can sell it on ebay.

The SSV and PPV do not support iPhone interconnect. I got the iSimple unit for well under $100. It is an easy 5 min install and works great.

Not only am I planning on getting one console--I'm gonna get two (the one that doubles as a middle seat and the longer one that goes all the way up to the dash).

Which iSimple unit did you use? Looking at their website now... I'll probably still just replace the stereo with a top of the line Alpine unit ASAP.

Anyone know if the textured black mirror caps are interchangeable with the chrome mirror caps that come on a lot of the DL3 power folding mirrors?

Interesting. The iSimple website says, "Vehicle MUST be either equipped with, or have the ability to support Satellite Radio." I didn't think the PPV radio was sat ready. Is it?

As the Tahoe's arrival gets closer (fingers crossed), I've been trying to make some decisions about upgrades. In terms of the CB, my biggest challenge has been the antenna(s). I want to avoid the trucker look as much as possible. Just don't think it'd look right on a police Tahoe. I don't mind the police look so much (after all, it is a police Tahoe), but it's rare to see CBs on police cars anymore (especially police SUVs). I also have some overhead limitations to keep in mind.

I wish I could use a couple smaller cell phone-esque antennas but everything I've read says that antenna length is the name of the game with CB and short antennas are darn near worthless.

So if that's the case, the only options I'm really liking right now are dual 4 ft. black Firestiks or a Laird CB27S type antenna (see below).

What do you guys think? Some mounting locations I've considered are the rear bumper (one antenna on each corner) or the front fender/hood. Roof mount would be way too high for getting in and out of the garage every day. Suggestions?

No, doesn't have to be dual. But depending on where it gets mounted, I might want duals to balance out the look. But no, doesn't have to be.

No sir I don't, but maybe on the CB section someone who is knowledgable on this subject might give you the info you're requesting...?

great ol' Virginy
A lot of cops have low band antennas mounted on an L shaped bracket on the front fender for SUVs and rear quarter for sedans. The NCSHP comes to mind for sedans and the Virginia Game Wardens have them that way on their Tahoes.

Good call! I like how those look. What would y'all think about a similar setup on the rear of the Tahoe though, in the rear hatch seam? That would let me lower the antenna to where it won't hit on my garage.
