Thanks for the update. I always enjoy airshow center at the State CP. Friendly folks and generous with parking too. Will miss this. I wonder what the backstory may be.

Apparently a major attraction-- the Thunderbirds--cancelled.
WPG has reported that the Thunderbirds did indeed cancel however there was a civilian replacement, Polaris Ghost Squadron, lined up which recently cancelled thus dooming the airshow.

WPG includes a Thunderbirds press release which puts doubt to their appearance at any future midweek show.

The WPVI-6 reporter said the Thunderbirds no longer fly midweek, only on weekends. Without the crowds the Thunderbirds bring in, putting on the event would be a loss leader for the city.

No I have nothing for you, Tom's news, is the first hearing anything about it. I am surprised. As said, long time tradition, favorite of many, great venue.

And yes, there's got to be a specific backstory to this, let's see what pops up in the near future.

Wow, did some searching, along with the great information, included here, in the thread, pretty much says it all. Both the Navy and the Air Force is unavailable as headliners.

Looks like if the air show is to have a future, it would have to be a weekend event.

This has a big impact on the commerce of Atlantic City and surrounding areas.

Turns out I had a screenshot. This show was never on this schedule.

And by the way, it's not as if the USAF Thunderbirds dropped out at the last minute. The AC air show was never on their 2024 schedule. Here is a post from early December showing their schedule, and AC is nowhere to be found. They're appearing at the NY air show in Orange County a few days before the AC show was supposed to take place. So I'm not sure why it's being incorrectly reported that it was the Thunderbirds who were the primary reason the show is canceled, it's not accurate.

AC is on the schedule for that private team I mentioned, I think they (not the Blue Angels) are the second team, recently cancelling, which was to cover for the Thunderbirds when the Thunderbirds didn't book it. As trentbob mentioned, surely there's more to it than that but it's moot now...

A midweek show seemed sensible to me, it's clearly a big draw so why draw people on a summer weekend when tourism is already going to sell well? Better to bring the hordes, for presumably the same cost to the promoters, on a Wednesday when it would otherwise be much quieter. I also figured there would be less competition with other airshows for the same performers, but it would be a grind if a team like the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels is doing a show the weekend before and the weekend after.

Weekends are typically change over days for rentals. My guess is they figured they would have poor attendance if the new batch of folks could not check in until X and the folks leaving usually have to be out by 10 AM. Just a guess why it had been during the week.
