Hello,

Just purchased the RS / GRE 2096 on sale. So far so good, except for a slight very low volume hum when the unit is scanning, and to a degree when receiving transmissions. Is this normal for this unit? Should it be silent when scanning? The same very low volume hum exists when used with headphones. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

I have tried dimming and shutting off the display - no change.
I moved the radio to different locations in the house - no change.
The power supply is the supplied RS 13.8v wall-wart.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

It would probably be your AC adapter, I have two 2096's and my older unit has always had a very low hum in the audio. I switched the adapter to the newer 2096 and I had the low hum in it then. Radio Shack should replace it for you.

I have that "same" issue. I have THREE 2096's in use (Two at the office and one at home) and they ALL have that hum. It doesn't seem to affect anything. It is just "annoying" unless there is other background noise in the room....

Steve/Gallia
