234.8 is metro @ Fairchild

234.8 is listed as the Metro frequency for Fairchild AFB.
Metro is a weather service the AF has for the aircraft, the aircraft
can get weather conditions at most military bases.
This can be current weather at their destination or it can
be inflight weather ie thunderstorms, icing conditions, turbulence, etc.
At times you will hear the aircraft give a "pirep", this is pilot report of the aircrafts
current positions, type aircraft, outside air temp, flight level, visibility, and
flight conditions ( bumpy, chop, icing).
also try : McChord AFB & Mountain Home AFB 342.5
Malmstrom AFB 239.8.

Try out this website for airport and navaid info.

Hope this helps!

It was flying in the Washington area yesterday for sure. Callsign is spelled ALLEN 02. It's a JE-3C with tail 73-1684. Boeing uses this special version of an E-3C AWACS aircraft to test new equipment.

That's pretty close.

Test System 3/Integration Labs: The E-3 AWACS testbed aircraft, Test System 3 (TS-3, tail number 73-1674), the Avionics Integration Laboratory (AIL),
AWACS Development Laboratory (ADL) are Government owned/contractor managed, maintained and operated assets. These test-ready assets support AWACS
modernization and sustainment programs, including advanced projects, and allow AWACS to participate in live-fly and ground-based simulation exercises such as
JEFX and JDEP. They also support multiple international projects, including French, RSAF and NATO projects.

The AIL is at Boeing Field Seattle and some of the freqs used with the AWACS are 119.45, 141.9, 315.0, and 291.8.

Here is a picture of 73-1674 at KBFI:

Hi mattcawby
Looked at the picture of the plane. Cool! I've always wondered how those radar dishes stay on the plane without getting ripped off by the wind. Must be bolted or welded on pretty good. Ha ha.

You wouldnt believe it if you saw it. The bearing assembly that it rides on at the top of the two struts is about 6 million dollars.
