Building a mid-VHF yagi with a gamma match can be a bit tricky, adjustments tend to be quite sensitive. Using a gamma match does allow for "plumber's delight" construction, having all elements DC grounded and eliminating the need to insulate the driven element. At these frequencies the antenna size is small and not hard to insulate, and a direct feed would provide for a reasonable match. All of my parasitic HF antennas (as well as some verticals) have all been gamma matched, but for VHF and up I use direct feed. My use is for both receiving and transmitting.

A gamma match or any other type of matching does not add anything to the sensitivity of the antenna, it just allows you to match it to 50 ohms. I prefer insulated elements and a haripin loop for matching, its really easy, then add several snap on #43 mix ferrites for common mode rejection.
