Anyone have experiences with this radio? I know it's analog and non trunking but that's fine. I have an old VHF/UHF dual band mobile antenna with a bnc connector, would that be ok for recieve only purposes? I will mount it outside on the top of my house, it's got to be better than the stock telescoping antenna, right? I'll only be monitoring VHF mostly.

I don't have that radio but I have a friend who does and he likes it well enough to not replace it with something else!
Sure, that antenna idea would work - but those mobile mag mount antennas need a ground plane (such as the vehicle provides with the metal roof) to function well. Might as well give it a try though! I have on radio that has a mag mount stuck to the underside of a steel rain gutter and it works pretty well.

It's not as critical, but it helps.
