I am looking to get another scanner with digital capabilities. I use a 96 for most of my digital and TT. I am interested in more than TT. I am an avid milcom, rail road, and conventional. I do like the extended rcv on the 396. There are too many holes in the new PSR500 for milcom( 50-80mhz). I like the size of the 396 and what it does. I want to do more fedcom listening also. Any comments will be taken into consideration.

TIA,
Larry

Larry,

Sounds like you've done a fair amount of homework already. The final choice has to be yours. Based on what you want to listen to, I'd say you're narrowed down to the 396 or its big brother the 996.

I have both the 396 and the 500. Overall, I prefer the 396. Not that there aren't some nice bells and whistles on the 500, but HOW I use the scanner, the 396 better fits MY needs.
