While entering some frequencies in my scanner the other night I received the message "over limit, press any key". I checked the memory used function and it is showing 89% full. Should it not say 100% since its not letting me program anymore. I have deleted many of the preprogrammed systems when I first got the radio. Pretty much all the systems I have in are all on ID search so there isn't a bunch of talk group IDs programmed, I thought I would never be able to fill it up so soon.
Wondering if anyone else has come across this problem or know anything about it?

I don't imagine you exceeded any of these limits:

Dynamic Allocation Capacity
Systems: 400 max
Groups: 20 per system
Channels: up to 6000 (3000 typical)
Channels per Trunked System: up to 200

So I have no suggestions, maybe someone else has some ideas. :D

My BR330T is showing 68% memory used, but it won't allow me to enter another channel, like your BCD396T is doing. It is probably full, but the firmware should not show both 68% full and full at the same time. This is an annoying "feature".

Seems like this came up before, but way back, maybe even in 2005. Something that does affect the memory limit, but may not be readily apparent, I believe, are channels locked out during search (CloseCall or otherwise), and during ID Search scans. If you're scanning a number of your TRS systems in 'search' mode, then I imagine that you are hitting some talkgroups you don't want. If it's a standard city or county system, besides police/fire/ems, you may have parks, water & sewer, & garbabe trucks. Even in ID Search, you can lock those out, & you won't hear them again. If that's happened enough (and I'm just speculating, since at 89% memory, you're getting close to the edge), it may be pushing you to the 'full' indication.

I don't know if this would show up if you connected the scanner to the pc, & then took a peek at the "scanner view", but wouldn't hurt to look. Other than that, maybe someone else has a better explanation.

Press function, Srch/CloCall Opt and scroll down to Max Auto Store. What does this number say?

It is probably different for conventional systems but this setting can cause the over limit error message in some cases, regardless of whether you have 1% or 89% memory full if the number is set above 255.

Thanks for the reply

I checked the Max auto store and it was set at 100 and I checked L/O review also. So I don't know, I guess I'll delete some more systems that I'm currently not using.

Do you have programming software?

Have you saved your systems to disk?

I start to think you need to do a reload to clear a memory glitch.

Just quoting numbers from the book does not help Ripper6Bravo. Ripper6Bravo, there are several factors that effect the 396's memory. What are you using to program, and do you know what "limit" you've hit? Also as mentioned, stored close call hits and even text labels will affect your memory.
